Influx Cafe isn’t quite like your stereotypical “coffee house“: Owner Jason Twilla wanted the design of Influx’s second location to be reflective of term “Influx” itself: An all-encompassing “sphere; “spacey” with a sense of meaning; welcoming an overflow of positive energy and an abundance of light. Influx is located in Little Italy’s new, likely-to-become the social epicenter of the neighborhood, building, the Q - whose gorgeous and innovative design has Jonathan Segal to thank. Segal brought to life his own envisions of a building reflecting a perceptiveness and sensitivity to space, and a thoughtful sense of “openness”. Thus, Influx’s new locale couldn’t be more perfectly suited to Twilla’s own vision.

This past Sunday demonstrated why Open House Sundays are the self-proclaimed epitome of”chiller-vention“: Although the Spring Break crowds were out in full force all over PB, FIREHOUSE seemed to be tucked and hidden away just enough off of Garnet Ave. that the brosef antennae did not pick up the good vibrations beaming from the rooftop. It was Sunday Funday; minus the fist-pumping and “too-tight t-shirt tensions.” And, it was actually FUN.

You’ve undoubtedly ridden the Taco Tuesday booze train more times than the number of tequila shots you’ve salted and sucked down after 8pm and Journey songs later: So why not try something new, amigos?

If you’ve missed our radio last Wednesday, In The MIX with TheMixster.com on LegitRadio.com here is a little guest spot we did on Chris Cantore’s morning show this past Friday (3/26) where we gave a solid rundown of what was going down in nightlife this past weekend. We also talked a little about the new concept from The El Dorado boys & Neighborhood going into Little Italy very soon, in the former Illume Bistro venue, and also a little about Fleetwood’s new concept making its way into Pacific Beach this summer in the former Hooter’s building; which is undoubtedly some of the most prime real estate PB has to offer. And of course, the usual goofy discourse was very much present as well as some trash talk for my gold TOMS from the lovely Robin Roth.

Check it out:

**AMAZING ROOF DECK WITH VIEW OF BALL PARK**

Despite the fact that I live in East Village, and knew exactly where it was by daylight, by nightfall, Proper Gastro Pub was a bit difficult to find. But once finding the little opening in the steel fencing, adjacent to Bulthaup, that blockades Petco Park by night, and cruising down an ill-lighted pathway, you come to find Proper Gastro Pub and its partner in crime, Wine Steals.

But despite its somewhat hidden locale, and only in its second week of being open, Proper Gastro Pub was packed at 8:30 pm on a Tuesday night: A crowd formed around the bar, deeply entrenched in the bartender’s booming charisma, while booths that faced the windows looking out, were cozily filled.

Wedged away on the third floor of UCSD’s corporate cafeteria, The Loft is where scraggly dorm rats and Downtown socialites alike can kick it to some of the freshest artists in the scene. The fluorescent green lounge bumps everything from indie pop (Jens Lekman, Friendly Fires) to psychedelic rock (Health, Dengue Fever) to folky songbirds (Zee Avi, Suzanne Vega) to chamber music (Calder Quartet, Swarmius) to underground hip-hop (People Under the Stairs, P.O.S) to DJ whiz kids (Shark Attack, Kraak & Smaack) — the list goes on. In its one-year lifespan, the lil’ nightclub has undoubtedly become one of La Jolla’s best-kept secrets.
