Thanks so much to everyone who came to LOCAL PRODUCE at the IVY rooftop last Thursday and danced under the stars (and a bit of mist at times) with us!
DJ HeadShake, DJ Craig Smoove, and DJ Groundfloor all threw down unbelievably awesome sets that were just positively jiggy. Kevin Bonner presented us with an awesome slide show — filled with his own original designs and works. Alongside the digital show, Kevin also went to work designing our next Local Produce flyer LIVE.
Broadcasting live from the rooftop was Chris Cantore, along with LegitRadio’s very own AUDIO ASSASSIN who also added another level of out of control commentary and even a peculiar, but sweet, Elton John-esque get-up. It was fantastic.

Despite the mistiness it was an overall awesome turnout — and I am so happy everyone came out and supported their Local Produce. If you went on Thursday night, you know who will be showcased in our next fresh batch of Local Produce – if you missed out, then you will just have to wait until next week when we make the announcement…
Until then, check out the gallery from the night — after the jump and get yourself amped for next the next Local Produce round-up June 24th, 2010 at the IVY rooftop!

When I think fashion, I hardly ever think “Hey! Let’s shop in PB!” Unless I plan on buying a Halloween costume, bikini and a beer belly, Pacific Beach is the last place I would look to get my stylista on. So when I was told a new boutique was hitting Garnet Ave, I had my reservations.

As I stepped inside Gloss, I could certainly sense a difference between this boutique and the other shops that have been stapled along Garnet. Loud music, bottles of wine next to the cash register, staff running in and out – styling customers and placing inventory back onto  well thought out displays. I felt as if I were backstage in Bryant Park during NYC fashion week – definitely not a block from PB Bar & Grill!

Thursday, May 27th will be our inaugural LOCAL PRODUCE event held on the IVY rooftop, at the Andaz Hotel.

This special event, hosted by TK Productions, DTown Productions, and TheMixster.com (!!), will spotlight those innovative and talented pioneers within San Diego’s creative underground: Each of which strive daily to make a positive impact on our local culture, and are personally driving San Diego’s evolution — to becoming an increasingly relevant and significant artistic hub, on the global scale. The Andaz, formerly known as the IVY Hotel, has given us this special opportunity to showcase these awesome creative individuals in a local and central part of Downtown San Diego, that is far enough away from the Gaslampland hype that would otherwise take away from the attention and praise our Local Produce deserves! With incredible views of all of Downtown’s skyline, and catching the season’s first warm summer breezes, we will be celebrating on the IVY rooftop, and basking in the talent that is San Diego’s very own Local Produce.

GO DEEPER: Get to know the souls behind the stage names: DJ HeadShake, DJ Craig Smoove, and DJ Groundfloor; and our other Local Produce picks: Ben DeCamp, Kevin Bonner, The Infusion Project, and Chris Cantore. And pick up some free tunes as well, after the flip!

This electro-dark atmospheric house DJ duo out of Germany absolutely BRINGS IT. Just thought you should know.

Electrixx have obviously been warmly welcomed here in San Diego as they have been poppin’ up all over the nightlife-scape the last few months . For good reason: Their sound is totally fitting into the realm that falls somewhere between that deep electro trance that is beloved at Voyeur, with reigning dirty beats by the hands of Deth Hertz; electronic spaciness of Drum n’ Bass being thrown down at Dub Dorado every month; and a little disco-pop funkiness that you will catch DJs like COLOUR VISION and DJ Groundfloor laying down at El Dorado or U31 on a Saturday night.
Their touchdown somewhere in the middle of all those sounds make the Electrixx get-down-and-dirty-worthy on all dance floor fronts.

This Wednesday, May 26th, San Diego Dubstep is hosting the inaugural DUB Dorado, to be held the last Wednesday of each month here on out. What does this mean for San Diego? Well when the boys told me about the event, and how many speakers they were shuttling in for the occasion (six ginormous ones to be exact), they pointed to the size of the space, the size of the speakers, and gave me a look, of mixed excitement and concern. I couldn’t imagine why? Doesn’t El Dorado want to do a little “remodeling” that night? Get rid of that pesky roof above and all? Wait what?… Oh. OK then in that case I’d be shitting-myself-worried about shattering the infrastructure of the building, too. This demolishing Dub Derby; will take no prisoners. Get fucking excited.

With a sound system that will have your legs quivering from the grinding, reverberating basslines for days, Dub Dorado is like no event San Diego has laid its virgin-whomping ears on.

Homegrown and for the locals only, once a month at the Andaz Hotel, we will be showcasing the best of what San Diego has to offer, from all over the county map. Local DJs spinning an eclectic mix of forward-thinking sounds, visually stunning art and design from San Diego’s creative underground, and the “in the scene action” broadcasted live, at Local Produce, we’re spotlighting those special facets of San Diego’s real urban lifestyle.

On the decks for the inaugural event, are three individuals, who I believe, are stellar representatives of the innovation, talent, and passion of the increasingly prominent DJ scene we have here in SD. Where all three even being in the same room is a rarity, we decided to put them together in the same line-up: And shake things up a little bit.

Futuristic Fashion

As we are moving forward in this generation of new technology and other futuristic attributes, fashion will make a statement as well. By drawing inspiration from geometry and architecture, clothing will become more structured and straight-edged. Power dressing is coming back, and it’s going to be a bit of a culture shock.

It’s Saturday night, and it’s time to get your thrill on. Here’s what I compiled: An art & music showcase at a chicy salon in the Barrio, promises of free CDs to lure you in early and two electronic indie dance parties with enough talent to keep you bumpin’ til very very late, and I promise, the fucking wildest book reading party at a vegetarian Mexican eatery you have EVER been to. Seriously.
