Obviously, with a name like”LA Riots” you should automatically assume these DJs throw down a considerably harder sound in the realm of electronic music: With crunching basslines, extreme catchy hooks, with dirty mixes will guaranteed to make you move. Personally, I think LA Riots can remix any song and make it sound hard. Get to Voyeur tonight to celebrate the last weekend of July; MAYBE if we rock out too much, the hidden sun will come out so we can have a real summer. A reverse rain dance starting at 9:00 p.m. is definitely in order.

Mad Dogs Cafe is one of those places where what you see is NOT what you get.  From the outside, it appears to be just another little beach cafe, but it really surprised me what they had to offer inside.  Sausages? Crumpets? Scrambles? Gelato? All in one place?!  This European influenced spot is serving up unexpectedly fresh and homemade dishes for breakfast, lunch, or just a post beach snack.

For midweek grime and unrelenting wobble action, DUB Dorado has taken on a notoriety all its own. As the reigning king of San Diego’s source for upbeat dubstep with its simply sweetened twist to the typically slow motion stomps, Wednesday night is that peak that takes you high up, and dumps you, head first, right into the weekend. This month’s installment delivers once again a serious dosing of whomp action and bass triggers from across the county and beyond.
Here’s the full run-down:

I’m the type of musicphile that listens to tunes that suit both the weather and mood that I’m in. You may blanket this under the label “emo” but hear me out and I’m sure you will agree. I can’t listen to “California Gurls” with a grey sky and a cardigan on. Something as sugary and poppy as that song calls for sunny skies and a cheery disposition. With the weather in San Diego being as fickle as it has been, fluctuating between hot heat and overcast gloom, summer songs tend to feel out of place sometimes. For those days when you are feeling a little more chill, I present to you a little of everything to set you right.

When I traveled to Koh Chang Thailand last year, I wanted to really experience the culture. In one memory in particular; I had an intimate dinner with friends on the rooftop of a stilted house, while sitting atop a jagged cliff, we were overlooking the most breathtaking view our eyes could lie on. The reflection of the amethyst and magenta sky caught light in the electric turquoise and deep-blue abyss, while the colossal, mandarin sun was setting. Just envision every single color on a palette; simply put, it was absolutely extraordinary.

It was when I indulged in my first bite at this restaurant, the memory immediately brought me back to that euphoric moment. It was a taste of nostalgia. The atmosphere of Pinto Thai in Normal Heights may not be as picturesque as the image painted above, however the food, even at this unassuming and nondescript neighborhood eatery, these Thai delicacies were even better than from what I remembered.

Taking place during the five-day-long chaos that was San Diego Comic Con 2010, RUSKO made the delightful decision to stomp his way down to our lovely city and unleashes an unrelenting performance of reverberating whomps and body-buzzing wobbles. With an absolutely mad show this past Thursday night where literally RUSKO turned the dance floor of the Red Circle into absolute aural wreckage. Reminiscing via these videos I captured are  certainly re-instilling that brain bubbling experience.

It has officially been one full day since Comic Con has ended. The dust is only now beginning to settle in our fair city. Hollywood has up and left, and San Diego is back to being that summer vacation destination underrated by the rest of the US, and all that is left are tweets and Facebook updates from every superhero and pop culture fan who already misses #sdcc.

This year, by far, was the biggest Comic-Con turnout EVER. Not only taking over the Convention Center and adjoining hotels, but spilling out onto the streets of the Gaslamp as well. In true local Comic-Con fan fashion, I had bought my pass last minute and was only able to attend the actual convention for one day. However, thanks to off-site events, after parties, and activities I was still able to enjoy all five days of Comic-Con madness.

Aside from all of the awesome panels fans buzzed over (Dexter, Chuck, Salt, Expendables, Tron, etc) and special Comic-Con exclusives – the best part about Comic-Con was the experience itself. Seeing old faces, meeting new people, partying and going super Otaku for five days straight (see our Comic-Con guide if you still don’t know what “Otaku” means) – I don’t know anyone who got a full-nights rest! Writing this is probably one of my highlights because I get to relive it all over again. Reminisce and relive with me the highlights and low (but very amusing) lights of Comic-Con 2010.

With Chromeo’s “Business Casual Tour” kicking off July 26th, and their new album release set to drop in early September it’s important for us to get to know the funktastic duo, made up of David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel, respectively nicknamed Dave 1 and P-Thugg, who have been dotting the charts with hip-thrusting, steamy singles since the beginning of this decade. Although their debut album “She’s in Control” dropped in 2004 with favorable response from fans and critics alike, it was their 2007 release of “Fancy Footwork” that put this duo on the mainstream focus and dance club maps. With building anticipation for their new album “Business Casual to hit the soundwaves, needless to say, we had a lot of questions that we wanted to ask these boys! Fortunately, and to our delight, Dave 1 was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule and have a nice little phone chat to us about the new album, and give us inside info about some of the awesome collaborations included on Chromeo’s new album & tell us about “Chipsters”, his feelings about dubstep, and those unique qualities that he finds sexy in a woman…

The trending Nu-Disco scene in the United States has had few heroes as notable and widely accepted as Brookynites HOLY GHOST! who became instant icons after transcending the “I be the Dj” world into the “I can actually play an instrument” world with their, now classic, disco anthemsHold On,” and “I Will Come Back.” After an extremely sweaty debut performance at El Dorado earlier this year, the duo is back and this time upgrading to the illustrious Voyeur sound stage as they continue on their US/ EURO tour to promote their new EP Static On the Wire.(more…)
