Skrillex

Skrillex is back in San Diego: Get geared up for all-out mayhem.

When Skrillex was in San Diego last time for Abstract Fest he threw down a massive set that seized the crowd in an immense array of absolutely chaotic aural wavelengths. Words alone don’t do justice to just the sheer energy of his performance itself. One of those things ya just kind of had to be there for…

Personally, I haven’t heard as much excitement for a show as I have heard for this Skrillex show tonight at Voyeur in quite some time. I haven’t been able to put my finger on exactly what it is, but one can’t deny, that there’s just something about Skrillex that makes San Diegans absolutely swoon.

Now you have that chance to find out exactly what that special something is TONIGHT!!! But as I mentioned, given the insane hype and enthusiasm for this show in and around the scene, I would get there VERY EARLY — it will be a guaranteed packed house tonight.

RSVP here and get there before 10:30pm.

In the meantime, enjoy the sounds of Skrillex, and get revved for an evening of the pure dance floor filthiness that’s sure to ensue. Happy Thursday amigos.

Scary Monster & Nice Sprites

Be sure to pick up his EP for free here – and donate a few bucks in this fine gent’s direction will ya!

And if you missed it, check out these visual snippets from Skrillex’s last audio brigade here in SD at Abstract Festival.

As a seasoned Threadster I feel obliged to tell you: This edition of THREAD show, was the best EVER.

The featured designers and exhibitors were so thoughtfully curated, the space felt far more open and vibrant, and even the selection of Men’s fashions was IMMENSELY better than it had been in years past. Even the newest addition to THREAD show, NOSH, turned out to be an enormous, and delicious success!

More photos and recaps after the jump!!

There is just something magical about film. Whether it’s a major blockbuster or indie movie short – film has the ability to captivate audiences and evoke emotions as if your own life had wondrously merged with the big screen. Even if a film had you bored to tears, you were still left with such an impression that you feel obliged to share with everyone within your social circle.

For nine years, the San Diego Film Foundation has been celebrating the power of film and bringing San Diego the Cannes and Sundance experience through the San Diego Film Festival. Today marks the first day of the San Diego Film Festival, and this year is expected to be the biggest yet. Running until October 3rd, the Gaslamp will be taken over and filled with five days of premieres and five days of TheMixster.com‘s favorite: parties!

Read on for my movie recommendations and which parties you’ll want to score day passes for!

There is always a new food fad sweeping the nation and Smashburger is the latest.  It’s as if someone went around the U.S. planting Smashburger seeds because they’ve been sprouting up like crazy since the first opening only three short years ago!  They currently have over 375 franchise agreements, plan to open 100-125 locations by the end of 2010, and estimate that number to exceed 500 within the next five yearsSouthern California is in the middle of the craze, with the opening of its third location in just a matter of months.  With its diverse menu, fresh approach to fast food, and emphasis on customer service, it’s no wonder Smashburger is quickly becoming “every city’s favorite burger place”.

It’s easy to think of Smashburger as just another place to grab a quick burger and fries, but once you step inside and take one bite you’ll notice some unique differences from other well known fast food spots.   “Smash, Sizzle, Savor”, the largely printed words upon the walls of every location, means that your Smashburger isn’t made until you order it.  Only then is the 100% Angus beef smashed on the grill, cooked to juicy perfection, topped with fresh veggies, and served with your favorite Smashside.

The full smash and a round-up of our fav Smash Selections after the jump!

The Glitch Mob Electric Zoo Festival

Running with the release of their first solidified album, the LA-based trio known as The Glitch Mob, trio consisting of members and sound racketeers EdiT, OOah, and Boreta, have been, quite literally, taking over stages from coast to coast nationally, and are now currently doing the same sonic justice to soundspheres from break to break on their Australasia tour. Personally witnessing Glitch Mob’s massive performances this year at both Coachella and earlier this month, at Electric Zoo Festival, it’s a near impossible task to give their highly engaged, technologically future-time-traveling performances justice in merely words alone. However, in an exclusive interview I had EdiT not too far back, via TheMusicNinja he gives me the full rundown of their electrifying accomplishments; in the studio and on stage, an insider look at the intricacies of their technical production, as well as a glimpse inside their outlook looking forward into what’s to come for the ever-involved and on a multiple of levels, the rapidly-advancing band of production evolutionaries known as The Glitch Mob.

Exclusive Interview, Videos, and More after the jump!

GS Cicleria

WHAT | GS Cicleria, Vintage/Custom/Handmade Bicycles & Accessories
WHERE |
Space 4 Art
SEE AT |
Hosted cycling events, pop-up shops at art exhibitions, wheeling around town, more to come.

Tucked away in the Space 4 Art building in Barrio Logan is a bike studio. Do bikes really need a studio? They do when they’re works of art. I don’t know what kind of bike you’re riding, but in comparison, it probably doesn’t compare. It’s doubtful that it’s a meticulously refurbished vintage Italian steel bike, custom-built from the frame up and resting on a branded wooden stand, perfectly parallel to well-organized wall of tools and vintage ephemera in an art studio. Because if it is, you are obviously Gabriel Salcedo from GS Cicleria.

Maybe you saw his stuff over at Frock You Vintage last weekend, or recently at mercantile (pop-up shop) put on by Set & Drift a few weeks ago at The Bakery. Maybe you went to the Space Invader Alley Cat Afterparty hosted by GS Cicleria on Saturday. Maybe you’ve even seen Gabriel handling your art purchases at Subtext Gallery. He’s all over the place these days.

The soft-spoken Conceiver, Wizard, and Captain (thank you, Thesaurus) of GS Cicleria showed me around his own Créatif Space recently. The space where bikes are custom-built and restored. Not just any bikes, though. The focus is European. Classic. Vintage. Steel. The bikes speak for themselves, but a Terrifique description can’t hurt, either.

Read more and see pics from my tour of the space after the jump!
