Because not everyone wants to listen to “The Monster Mash” to get into the ghoulish, get down and party spirit.

With a little help from some of my trusted friends and tastemakers, we put together this list of creepy beats and haunting melodies to get you in the Halloween mind set, and to keep your bodies hot and movin’ while you strut your stuff, in what you may refer to as your, very little, costume attire. With fake eyelashes, mustaches, breasts, blood or whatever in place what Halloween is all about is having a good time, getting filthy on the dance floor, and looking as slutty and weird as possible while doing so. Here are beats that will turn your pregame sesh into absolute debauchery before the real frightful festivities even go down…

Skrillex – Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites

Designer Drugs – Zombies (Hot Pink Delorean Thrillernight Remix)

Villains – Thrilla

Mop & Op – Spooky Techno

Gorillaz – Hip Albatross

Justice – Phantom II (Boys Noize Unreleased Turbine)

Mr. Oizo – Z

Thriller Louis La Roche Remix

Sébastien Tellier – Zombi

Aphex Twin - Gwely Mernans

Jinder – Youth Blood (Bubblegum Sci FI Remix)

GOOD MIX TIPS: Be sure to keep your theatricality and your disguises in check — just because you’re playing bad cop doesn’t give you any excuse to talk back to the real ones. Do you really want your parents picking you up in jail looking like a depraved tooth fairy or a strung out Wonder Woman? Do you really want ANYONE for that matter seeing you like that!? I didn’t think so. Be safe, don’t have sex with anyone who thought being Lady Gaga or “Hide yo’ kids Antoine” was an original costume idea, and have fun.

I don’t think I need to remind anyone of how obsessed I am with Don Diablo. And if I do then, well, I figure you’ve got the jist by now.

The new positively pop, swing your hips and your hair extensions to dance floor collaboration between Dutch hunk Don Diablo and Dragonette has infectious hooks that will have you smiling for days.

The track isn’t out yet in the States (currently only out in Belgium and Holland) but here’s a preview for those who can’t wait a day or two for the real thing to drop.
Don Diablo ft. Dragonette – Animale (PREVIEW) by dondiablo

The uplifting and vivacious affect this track will have on the kids inside the clubs, contrasts somewhat with the dark and depraved yet heart-flutteringly familiar and welcomed facetious theme that was chosen for the official music video. I believe the reference to the maniacal tale from the novel or for you literary-phobes, the film, Requiem for a Dream, is quite obvious, and the playful twist the director chose to infuse in his or her own version, curiously causes the viewer to crave the very fruit that evokes devastation in this particular plot line.

If you’ve not the slightest bit intrigued by citrus by the end of this video, you have the willpower of no less than seven nuns. More power to ya.

As for the rest of you, who wants to do mothafucking orange slices in the bathroom stalls and fucking partyyyyy?!?!?!

Bonus Points!!!!: Datsik Dubstep Remix

All your prayers have already been answered! The free download available for your aural feasting, the Datsik Dubstep remix is actually quite the highly danceable reflip of the pop track and could seamlessly sneak onto those club dance floors without too much tempo lull and bpm infuriation. As a matter of fact, the remix is quite positively fun and I think DJs will indeed look forward to dropping this track onto even the most indie electro loving hipster-filled dance floors.

Whooooaaaaaaaa Dirty Bird definitely made a HUGE and very impressive presence at Voyeur on Thursday, October 28th. Minimalism reigned king when Justin Martin of San Fran’s clucktastic fantastic tech house cult by the name of Dirty Bird Records took the decks at Voyeur. I know, I know. The night was meant to be a celebration for Harvard Bass – being knighted into the highly regarded kingdom that is Voyeur — as the goth LED lit haven’s newest resident DJ. However, I think it’s important we all just take a second and step back, and take a look at this damn fine fellow Justin Martin. The man, JM, absolutely slashed and murdered the dance floor, with sleek as freshly sharpened steel beats and deep cutting grooves.

My favorite videos and some tunes from the night are after the jump so be kind, click the “more” & have a look please.

I hope you have your costume ready. I also hope it’s really cute and in my size, because I’ll need to borrow it. More on that later. Call me. And while we’re at it, join me for terrifyingly Terrifique activities that I will be participating in this All Hallow’s Eve Weekend. My weekend starts early (today) partially because of the drinking problem, but mostly because there’s so much Scaryfique (somebody stop me) stuff going on that it has to! Let me point you in the right direction to get your festivities all festive-like. I’ve got Thursday, Friday and Saturday-day covered. I’ll leave your Saturday night up to you – I can’t make all your decisions for you, you know. Plus, you probably already have plans, right? I mean, you didn’t invite me to them, but that’s okay. I probably have something better to do, anyway.

1. Spooky Sexy Burlesque | Marble Room | Thursday, Oct. 28 | 7-11pm

2. Dia De Tus Muertos | Subtext Gallery | Friday, Oct. 29 | 6-10pm

3. It Came From the Garage | Space 4 Art | Saturday Oct. 30 | 1-6pm

More frighteningly interesting info after the jump!

Calvin Harris at Voyeur

Calvin Harris’ very special touch on those dance floor favorites of ours and a whole array of other sparkly pop favorites, caused smiles to sweep across Voyeur Nightclub’s tightly packed dance floor on Monday night. It was almost as if Calvin Harris just knew… He just knew exactly how to make us go absolutely wild. And that he did.

Yes, AND it was a MONDAY night.

You heard that right.

When Voyeur announced they were completely sold out that night, they certainly weren’t exaggerating by any means. It’s been quite some time that I’ve actually seen Voyeur COMPLETELY packed, floor to ceiling. All those tightly-packed moving bodies caused an incredible nonstop wave of motion that lasted ALL night long.

Without fail, every year I have celebrated my Halloween night at The Prado, I have had the most amazing night.

This Halloween evening, presented by DJHere Productions, of hauntingly entrancing rhythms, salacious vibes, and body-oozing sounds will be complete with over 20 bars for easy access to tantalizing libations. During the evening there will also be an opportunity for those dressed to the spooky nines to enter into the costume contest, with a chance to win $500 for their creative and over-the-top ghoulish duds.

Nestled in the heart of beautiful Balboa Park, this Mediterranean enchantment boasts gorgeous two-story architecture and secret rooms hidden throughout the premises for the curious few who love to loom around… Off in those hidden-away escapes you’ll find a wonderful surprise: The Loggia. Overlooking the gorgeous Prado courtyard and featuring two picturesque balconies featuring stunning views, The Loggia will feature bass thumping, heart-pounding, and indie dance grooves, booming out the top notch sound system. The Loggia is the perfect getaway for those looking for absolutely filthy beats. Local deck masters Erick Diaz, Headshake, Adam Salter, The Office Twins, and more will be flooding the soundsphere with the best of the electronic world’s freshest offerings and creating a vibe you simply can’t resist getting down to.

Our homie and delightful Fresh MIX pick, Craig Smoove will be tearing up the main room dance floors along with DJs Scooter & Lavelle. If you went to Abstract Festival this year you will be able to relive warm memories and tingly moments when you look up to see the very same, massive LED light wall box structure that contained the very likes of Claude VonStroke, Excision, and Steve Duda. Yea, SHIT JUST GOT REAL. And that beautiful and majestic LED beast is going to absolutely melt your face off.

In the side room, adjacent to the main room festivities, get ready to set your sights on a tasty treat out of our bag of local sonic goodies, that is sure to satisfy all your aural fixations: BUBBLEGUM SCI FI will be taking down the decks in the ornately spooky lair of The Prado adjacent to the Main Room festivities. BGSF promises to chill our bones with big room bass, mesmerizing heart-fluttering house beats, and quite possibly, as we’ve been teasingly hinted, the exclusive first listen of the super secret SCI FI release we’ve been told BGSF is equally excited to drop on the decks as he was with their massively popular remix of Passion Pit’s The Reeling. We’re positively quivering at the very thought of what brain-tingling stash of sonic overloads Bubblegum Sci Fi is ready to unleash unto us.  A few more DJs greats will be joining Bubblegum Sci Fi in this secret-ish side room so prepare to let the sound ooze throughout your senses.
