I’ve said this about a million times before and I’m going to say it again: I am always so stoked when Treasure Fingers plays in San Diego. His sets are always amazing, and really more than anything, never fails to engage club-wide response to his undeniably dancy, house/nu-disco grooves.
And his set on February 24th, 2011 at Voyeur Nightclub in San Diego, along with Congorock and Kingdom on the bill, was certainly no exception. The crowded-club was quivering with delighted energy all night long as this stellar line-up certainly didn’t lack any sonic charisma from beginning to end! Here are a few highlights of the evening worth reminiscing or if you couldn’t make it,, then catching a look at what you missed!

Congorock also delivered an outstanding set that stirred up sheer crowd-wide dancefloor recklessness last time he played at Voyeur Nightclub. His set included a mix of HARD electro house and Dutch house bangers that provided an equally massive second round audio assault that summoned the masses to pack the club almost instantaneously

The crowd absolutely LOVES Treasure Fingers’ own original track, Lift Me”

However, far and away, the most exciting moment of the entire night had to be when Treasure Fingers dropped the track ‘Set You Free’ - San Diego-based producer and Voyeur Resident DJ, Anthony Ross‘ OWN ORIGINAL TRACK!!!!
Treasure Fingers also dropped the track last week on air on TRIPLE J Radio but to see the track dropped live on Anthony Ross’ own home turf, that’s pretty damn special.

In my eyes, no matter how many times/remixes of Tensnake’s ‘Coma Cat’ I have heard, that track just won’t ever lose its magical touch. Treasure Fingers’ Coma Cat’ is especially – aurally enchanting.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to capture a proper video of KINGDOM’s set that night with worthy quality. But to quickly recap, KINGDOM’s set was delightfully bass-laden and provided a fully-intriguing approach to house music. Super eclectic and bursting with surprising energy, Kingdom is certainly a Fool’s Gold Records artist worth keeping your eye on.

Our friends of LA-based Breakdown have just unleashed another driving electro-house kicker! One with a keen ear could distinctly recognize an ever so slight reminiscence to Swedish House Mafia’s “One” during the first half of the track, but approaching the breakdown, the track transforms and takes on a more haunting synth chime: a reworking that leads the production into becoming a being of its very own.

With recent play support from both world-renowned heavy-hitter house kings Bob Sinclair & Treasure Fingers, it would be rude not recognize SD-based producer Anthony Ross for another positively stellar release. “Set You Free” is hot off the production press: and it’s straight-up fire that’s ready to spit in every which direction and ignite across packed dance floors everywhere. Without delving too far away from his usual tech house vibe, Ross’ momentary transition recently into a more filter-house sound, has undoubtedly boasted tremendous results. With exceptional vocal samples and club-room ready energy “Set You Free” is certainly no exception.

SNATCH 012 by PRINCE CLUB (BEATPORT)

Dropping this week off Riva Starr‘s own UK-based SNATCH! Records, Prince Club have released SNATCH 012: featuring fresh housey cuts that burst with club-ready energy and infectious funky vocals sure to instigate waves of dance floor recklessness.
Only way to hear the tracks in full is swooping up the Full EP off BEATPORT – a well-worthwhile purchase indeed.

Here are some small taste-tests to sample:

Ed Banger
. You have done it again you dirty scoundrel. You made me fall in love, all fucking over again.

But this time, it’s not with luscious disco. Nor is it with French house.

No, this time: it’s TECHNO.

All I can say is WOW.

I cannot more enthusiastically praise my favorite Beatport purchase this month – “Let The Children Techno” – the latest compilation from France’s legendary taste-evolving label ED BANGER RECORDS.
ED Banger
and its legion of phenomenally talented artists have invited a few equally forward-savvy friends to join forces with them -and change the game of EDM, all over again.

Future-forward in the minds of the ED BANGER is the age of techno taking over the EDM soundscape: where indie-dance club music undergoes a tech-driven evolution with  Ed Banger All-Stars including Busy P, Mr. Oizo, SebastiAn, DJ Mehdi, Feadz, Breakbot at the wheel of their techno-time machine.

Although I’d personally recommend buying the whole release without question, here are a few track highlights worthy of particular note.

Idiot – Siriuismo - Almost a ‘hyphy’ rhythm… Think Moombahton gone techno.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Shades of Black – Breakbot
I have been looking forward to the release of this since I treated my little ears to a listen of the preview the day it came out. And Breakbot, has delivered a sassy slice of funky heaven, once again.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The Voice (Original Mix) – Gesaffelstein – Underground SF-techno-minded griminess with eerie builds and an evil-ish Euro-garage twist.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Relax (Original Mix) – Zombie Nation - One of top favorite tracks off the compilation comes from Zombie Nation simply because of it’s refusal to stay within the frame of a single classification. It’s nu-disco a la ‘CLASSIXX’ samples at times, then it’s funky and progressive on a different transition, and then transforms into drones with tech house gutter bass and airy synth filters. Definitely commands your aural interest from start to finish.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Control (Original Mix) – Bobmo – Probably the greatest indicator of French House influence comes from Bobmo’s “Control”. An electro foundation takes lead with monotonous piano key synths and is chopped up with splices of vocals and sonic bursts.

Ed Banger can techno the fucking shit out of me all night long if this is what their tech-sauce stroke feels like. Dark, mysterious, borderline creepy, but unexpectedly  funky when it’s time to crack a lil’ smile – it’s exactly the way I like my men, and apparently it’s precisely the way I like my flavor of techno as well.

San Diego… you’re in for a HUGE  treat: U31 Cocktail Bar & Lounge is bringing you ONE of the best shows this year – and it’s all going down inside our very favorite North Park haunt! Nicole Novak has brought out the big guns for her Birthday Bash by booking Juan MacLean from DFA (Death From Above) Recordings! The Juan MacLean from Providence, Rhode Island are one of the most talented groups in the Disco-House scene to touch down in our great city!

I’m personally beyond excited to see Juan MacLean perform a live DJ set – he is one of the most respected in the industry with four album releases to date, and touring almost non-stop around the world with vocalist Nancy Whang and live drummer Nicholas Millhiser. Juan MacLean personally has had two guest appearances on the world famous Beats In Space based in New York in the underground Disco scene,  after receiving much due respect from Tim Sweeney, who also is a stellar fellow DJ/Producer.  Only the best of the best top tier musicians and DJs from the Disco-House/Cosmic/Electronica scene get to showcase their magic and give a live interview on his privatized radio show: and Mr. Juan MacLean has already received that honor twice!

It is to a worthy cause that Juan Maclean gets this acknowledgment: while all his albums are in the production phase, the band spends countless of hours producing each sound with analog keyboards and drum programming through real instruments. Which in this day in age, have been seen as a lost cause in our generation – simply because our generation is hyper-reliant on computers. Because digital vs. analog spectrum is huge in depth, This makes a huge difference on what translates to your ears, and the way each track comes across personally to the listener; because analog has more of a live performance feel. The tweaking of knobs and arrangements breathe a lot heavier and almost always sound bigger to the ear. Their biggest single to date is “Happy House” and if you haven’t had a chance to hear it just know the title does it justice! Besides the fact “Happy House” brings and instantaneous smile to your face, this song became an original hit to produce a genre all of its own! “Happy House” is personally one of my favorite Disco-House tracks of all time, may it live on forever. Little known to most:  there is a different version called “Feliz Casa” (Happy House in Spanish) it’s a bit deeper and darker. The video visuals are quite stunning as well, so I felt that it must be shared to get the full effect!

Juan MacLean has recently remixed the Los Angeles up and coming Disco duo known as the Cosmic Kids and their new unreleased track “Reginald’s Groove”! This one is a Deep Soulful House explosion in your ears, and in epic in every form. Piano stabs run a muck with phasing vocal phrases bouncing back and forth that will leave your head in a trance. If you don’t mind getting lost in other-worldly experiences, zone out and just let your body go and feel the groove.

Just as of this week Juan MacLean dropped a new remix for The Big Crunch Theory’s “Arrows”. The track is a very space induced House number, with colossal kicks that will give your little rump a workout. You’ve got to love those cheerful horns that give you the feeling of being rewarded for being alive! Picture yourself bouncing around town to this tropical vibe. It may be a bit cool outside, but this one will warm up your heart. Spring is looking a lot better already!

Once again, TheMixster.com will be hosting this special celebration and getting into all forms of rioting: a party that will be off the charts and a night to remember. If you’ve ever had a chance to party with Nicole you already know you’re in for a stellar evening! Happy Birthday Nicole!!! Let’s get wild and out of control!

20-year-old UK prodigy Louis La Roche stepped on the scene last January and hasn’t looked back since! His funky French Disco House vibe is smooth & silky, and constantly showering us with epic and upbeat gems. It’s not everyday that you hear an artist get compared to Thomas Bangalter from French super duo Daft Punk. Louis La Roche is carefully infiltrating the listeners and lovers of Indie Dance/Nu-Disco scene by releasing some of the most grooviest and funky heartfelt songs since the late 80′s. His new releases both “My Turn” and “Number One” have amazing flavor, because they capture the essence of the male vocal at their height of glory. ‘Boy Bands’ from the early 00′s probably wish they had had Louis La Roche in their back pocket while in studio back then! Simply because, LLR’s lyrics and melodies are more than infectious: His  jams will melt the heart of any girl you’re trying to send love signals to! Add the perfect combination of passion, wine, roses, chocolates, and get the sheets warm: THESE TRACKS ARE WHAT #fuckjams ARE MADE OF! Of course I didn’t leave you hanging without club worthy tracks that get the party started: thanks Mr. La Roche.

Forthcoming on MARTYN‘s forward funky label 3024 is a brand new release by one of Bristol’s finest, Julio Bashmore. I’ve been a fan of his uplifting shuffly beats for more than a minute and am always delighted to catch wind of his next drops. “Batty Knee Dance” definitely takes the win on his forthcoming EP out March 28th with sharp rising pads, and a percussive juke-style drive that sits nice and clean on the eardrums. 3024 was kind enough to put up a preview of the entire release on Soundcloud which you can peep below. And, I had to add in a few more gems for you from the recent past, so get downloading!
