It’s a wonder how some unassuming warehouse located only God and a few straggler homeless people know where in the midst of Downtown Miami, managed to summon the world’s most notorious players in dance music. Only an event like HARD Miami could have pulled off an event of such ginormous proportions and literally call upon forces from the ultra triad of global EDM powers Ed Banger, Mad Decent, and Turbo Recordings. And the sold-out show resulted in a massively fun evening of proper sounds and the all-star players who delivered them.

Oh yes…we are spearheading into the second quarter of 2011 and the energy is at an all time high! Summer is right around the corner. The semester is coming to a close. There is no better time to put on your favorite attire, throw your inhibitions to the wind, and feed the thirsty monster living inside your belly. To start April off right, LA’s very own Tim Nelson (aka BETATRAXX) is gracing U-31 this Saturday 4/02 and we at TheMixster.com will be hosting in full effect! Our beloved BUBBLEGUM SCI FI and DAVID AFTERLIFE will be supporting the evening and word is they’ve got some fresh new tunes to bring the dance floor to an upheaval. Expect only the best 4×4 House beats and Indie Electro heaters. It’s gonna be a banger!

If there is one thing you should know about BETATRAXX, it’s that he is an absolute workhorse. This guy churns out remixes and originals almost every single week and is constantly hustling to have his tunes meet your eager ears. He recently released his “X” EP for free, and we have been astounded at the amount of crunched up Electro butter packed in this 6-track powerhouse. Please check out 3 of our favorites off the EP below, along with a sweet House Party Mixtape he put on Soundcloud this last week. Long sun-drenched days are a near reality, and BETATRAXX will definitely bring the summer fun party vibes to our favorite Northpark destination. Killer crowds, stiff drinks, amazing music...U-31 this Saturday. Let’s do this!!!

SD-based Producer Anthony Ross has reflipped Vindata: SoCal-based electro remix duo, comprised of Branden “Apollo” Ratcliff and Jared “Ark Angel” Poythress. And after much, MUCH anticipation and preparation (according to WordPress I originally started this article January 4th) the track will be available for purchase soon. Moreover, this proper filter house number is FINALLY ready to be shared with the world!

The original mix of “Night Sky” is a bit of a nu-disco-y, rad indie dance floor charmer punctuated by cooing synth melodies and aurally enchanting builds. Anthony Ross takes Night Sky” on a journey: encountering mosaics of bouncy, multifaceted builds and sassy vocal reworks, where all those sounds soon envelop into an infectious, yet unpredictable progression. The liberal use of various synth filters present a lovely contrast of airy sounds with Ross’ intentionally dynamic breaks: resulting in a delightfully dance floor-ready machine that will cause crowds to lose their hip shakes to its catchy groove.

Ross successfully maintains the overall fun and lighthearted vibe of the original, while simply approaching the track from a different creative perspective. It’s hard for me to choose which version I prefer as either could be so very easily integrated across various dance floors and event contexts alike, inside and outside the San Diego stomping grounds.

Simply: it’s one of those tracks that you just can’t help but smile when you hear. Otherwise, check your pulse.

BONUS:
Accompanying the original version is arguably the most “hipster” music video I have ever seen: It would have been rude not to include it.
So many hipsters in hipstery situations involving fixies, plaid shirts, high-tops, precisely-manicured ‘low-key’ hairdos: It’s just absolutely perfect. If you’re from San Diego, you’ll know this was filmed primarily in the Gaslamp. But if you’re really on it, you might even recognize a few familiar faces, including one from fellow MIXSTER and local producer David Afterlife. The video is extremely well-done and is also apparently directed by Vindata member, Branden Ratcliff himself.

The official download off SHAKE YOUR ASS Records will be available for purchase on April 8th, 2011 on Amazon.com

Also mad props to my homie JWLS. Not only did he play a bad ass set at the MAD DECENT Moombahton party, but he’s the only reason we all made it back alive. Seriously, the MVP of my Ultra experience full-stop.

When all hope was lost, and we thought that Indie Dance was dead and in the grave, it has now been resurrected by the French musical saviors Justice: who need very little introduction. But as always, we love to give a good story. In 2007 music was awakened by the two pioneers, who took after a well known French duo who came before them… Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Auge literally took over the eyes and ears of the world when they delivered “✝” sparking the very Electronic music revolution that America is still pushing at this very moment. Touring every side of the world, made crosses a pop icon, got tattoos of them, and created lots of trouble when they filmed a documentary DVD entitled “A Cross The Universe”. They even made Hip Hop’s loudest mouth Kanye West take much more notice into making better dance albums and pushing his sound to the next level… One thing is for sure: Justice knows what makes the crowd move!

I am really happy to be able to listen and share this new jam “Civilization”, because that’s exactly what they have created out of the Electronic Music Scene. The track itself is as close to the description of the term “Hipster”, as you can get, just behind PBR and fixies! Get ready for everyone and their mom to memorize and sing these lyrics, because this is the beginning of another revolution: and the album hasn’t dropped yet! Maybe this is the year that Indie Dance is revived! The leather-jacket-clad boys are back in town! ONE WORD: CIVILIZATION!

Justice – Civilization

Editor’s Note: I decided to send our intern by himself on his first adventure to our favorite hipster haunt EL DORADO COCKTAIL LOUNGE. The same night 12th Planet was going to be playing a surprise set. In other words, on an evening of sheer, unrelenting mayhem. Knowing full well the magnitude of chaos and energy inside El D during DUB DORADO, it potentially could have been dangerous. However, because I was en route to Miami for ULTRA while this momentous special event was taking place, I had to send someone to witness report on the madness and sheer aural magic that was 12th Planet’s surprise debut at DUB DORADO at EL DORADO in San Diego. I’m just really hoping I don’t receive an angry call from his mother about this.

***

Got anotha little selection here! And you know they’re good. Let’s just say that college has been a little drab for the most part. I didn’t rush, I hardly ever party, I just wasn’t getting the satisfaction I craved. So I knew I needed to change things a little to mix it up. Not sure where to go, I pursued an internship with www.TheMixster.com, unaware where it would take me. I can honestly say it has NOT taken me where I anticipated. It’s taken me farther.

Expecting to find the grimy, dirty culture I was surprised at how much San Diego feels like a home. When it was suggested I go to some cocktail lounge on 11th avenue I’d never heard of, I figured I was just being steered to another small bar where the sports on the TV are the most exciting thing in the place. Instead I found a family. A bar crowded from wall-to-wall with people who knew each other, and were there to honestly enjoy the beats being thumped out of all the stacks of JBL’s. Inspired by my eye-opening week, where I experienced my first time at El Dorado (the shit), and was introduced to the sounds of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, AND made a few new friends here and there, I’m quite proud to say these tunes will always bring me back to my EL DORADO DAYS!!!! So without further adieu, let’s listen to some music.

Can’t even begin to tell you how long we scoured the blogosphere/interwebs this past weekend looking for this track…

When we heard it at Beyond Wonderland this past weekend, we knew we were obsessed.

Already too exhausted to talk about it- it’s fucking awesome. Stream it on Rusko‘s page here.

Here’s the video of Jakwob dropping it at Beyond Wonderland below:
