IDENTITY FESTIVAL is only two days away! It will no doubt be an appropriate send-off for the final month of Summer time raging. If you’ve frequented the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, then you know this place will be a mad house, especially when you throw in every raver in San Diego and the surrounding 100 miles! To make your travels less of a nightmare, and more of a party on wheels, take note of the following tips.

Parking:
For those of you who don’t mind spending a little extra for comfort, you may purchase a VIP parking pass here, to avoid all the bumper-to-bumper mess that will be going on in the surrounding parking lots.

Regardless of VIP parking, or regular parking, from my past experience at any electronic festival, I would advise you head over to the venue an hour to two hours ahead of schedule. After all, arriving early only means you can start the party earlier!

Directions:
Located 15 minutes South of Downtown San Diego.
2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista, CA 91911

From the North:
I-805 South to Auto Park Drive/Main Street
Exit freeway, turn left onto Auto Park Drive
Follow Auto Park Drive to entrance of Amphitheatre

From the South:
I-805 North to Auto Park Drive/Main Street
Exit freeway, turn right onto Auto Park Drive
Follow Auto Park Drive to entrance of Amphitheatre.

Alternative Transportation:
Party Naked has an awesome deal going on for PARTY BUSES to and from the event. For both an event ticket and transportation the deal is $65, or just $25 for transportation alone! And both ticket prices include alcohol on the bus! (!!!)
RSVP here on their event page for more info and to reserve your spot on the bus!

Former Turntable Lab DJ and NYC resident DJ Sabo will be making blasting SD with a extra special moombahton set this Saturday night, September 3rd at U31!

Leading moombahtonista DJ Sabo, upon advice from good friend Dave Nada, recently fled out West and has established permanent residence in his new home of LA. And since his arrival he has kept himself busy on the circuit: establishing himself as a resident DJ at the Standard Hotel and working closely in cahoots with world-renowned alt-audio/creative agency and label MAD DECENT. In addition to all this, his brainchild, Moombahton Massive, in collaboration with the moombah creator himself, Dave Nada, has been gaining significant cross coast attention, for consistently rolling out unparalleled top-tier DJ-studded line-ups at events all across the country.

Prior to his big West Coast migration, DJ Sabo pioneered his own label “Sol Selectas” in 2006 which has seen several high profile releases from Nadastrom, Munchi, Heartbreak, Sazon Booya, and MOOMBAHTON MASSIVE since its jump-off - just to name a few. With features in Nylon, Rolling Stoned, MixMag, Spin, and a recent mention & quote in the Los Angeles Times, DJ Sabo has been making his imprint across the scene for the past 14 years and has no doubt earned his keep within the industry.

Sabo’s signature sound integrates all types of global riddims, House, Latin, Brazilian, Afrobeat, Disco, Reggae, Cumbia, Dub, Miami Bass, Hip Hop, and Tropical Bass. Or as Sabo generalizes it, “funky music to make you feel good” style. But at the present he maintains a very steady focus on creating next level cutting moombahton and moombahcore productions and seeking out & signing fellow forward-minded artists who are on his same wavelength.

We’re hyped to be host to DJ Sabo‘s U31 premiere and we’re celebrating in true-to-Mixster-form moombah-style with our very favorite cast of local moombah heads GROUNDFLOOR (of Bubblegum Sci Fi), Colour Vision, and Roane on support, free cover before 11pm, and cheap heavy pours all night long. On the roaming party pics routine will be Turbo.fm and our very own TheMixster.com photographer Spencer Handly, so wear something sassy and flash that sexy sonrisa for the camera.

***Mix Tip: ATTN DJS!!!! As your friendly neighborhood Mixster I feel obligated to direct your attention to the following: DJ Sabo has the BEST artist profile/one sheet I have ever seen. It’s thorough, well-organized and extremely accessible. If you model your artist page to lay out EXACTLY like his, I guarantee you’ll be more likely to get more press/promotional value to your name. September is upon us, and what better way to bring in the month with a little bit of futuristic hip hop? Critical Beatdown, a monthly beat event that parallels LA’s beat scene (but of course with classy San Diego style), is set to throw down some sneaky sounds this Thursday, September 1st at – where else? The Kava Lounge!

This month, Critical Beatdown is bringing in beat maker, Knxwledge. Straight out of Philly, this kid is a bit of a legend – generating online buzz through his consistent drive and hard work. He has released 4 EPs just this month, and it’s only August! The latest EP, “ShadySide“, dropped literally hours from me typing this. His fans and I question – Do you sleep?! But it’s not just that Knxwledge bleeds music, he’s actually good at his craft! Soulful and musically clever – I’m not quite over what he’s done with his last EP, “Flowrs“. Shit dude, he sampled Rugrats! Just check the track “SumthngNu“, it actually sounds like flowers, and I can picture Phil & Lil as they glide through the air in their diaper commercial.

SumthngNu by Knx.

But back to “ShadySide“. It’s kind of imperative that you listen to this EP now, before he makes another one. Trust – by the time you listen to his current sounds, he will produce more music and you will be out of the loop! Preview and buy ShadySide.EP on bandcamp.

And as with most of these beat nights, expect to catch more producers, including Kone – a native Angeleno whose sound definitely evokes that California feeling. It’s that last leg of summer for us in So Cal, and Kone will definitely set that tone for you this Thursday.

KONE: New Los Angeles by ALPHA PUP

Locals Mr. Brady, Mike Gao (fresh off his European tour!), eLan, DJ Pound (who just got to signed to German label, Saturate Records), DJ Cleancut, and Nino Seneris are also going to be throwing down the goods! eLan also just recently unleashed “Alligator Snaps EP” on Monkeytown Records – so you’re most definitely going to want to brush up on his tunes before you catch the show! Check out the title track, “Alligator Snaps“. He’s won my synthetic heart, let me tell you!

Alligator Snaps by eLan

Critical Beatdown starts at 9pm and is $5 and $7 after 11pm. For more info peep the Facebook invite.

Tango del Rey is equally the weirdest and most whimsical venue I have ever seen. It re-defies WTF and transcends OMFG, all in that very first breath you take as you enter into the venue. For a place like TdR to be in San Diego is not only astonishing but a thoroughly exhilarating delight. But what’s most important however, is what’s going to be INSIDE this eccentric establishment on September 9th, 2011 for all those 18 years or older to enjoy!!

MORD FUSTANG - the proverbial Beatport megastar will be making his SAN DIEGO DEBUT as part of the epic build-up for the 2nd annual ABSTRACT FESTIVAL taking place the very next evening at San Diego Broadway Event Center.

Mord Fustang‘s unique and positively hype-enthralling brand of sound is what electro house feels like while you’re licking a psychedelic mushroom cap in front of a strobe light. You will ride the dance floor all night long like a majestic unicorn soaring along the milky way, while the rest of your senses stay fixated on MORD FUSTANG’s audible shiny objects.

Fussy Boy  – Gold (Mord Fustang Remix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Mord Fustang – Milky way

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Mord Fustang – Magic Trooper (Overwerk Remix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Mord Fustang – The Electric Dream (Original Mix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

And there’s no place better to host all that is the very essence of Mord Fustang than in the only venue that could host such an overwhelming mass of bizarrities and a sparkling array of goofy grins crowd wide.

We’re are stoked to be the first to announce that tickets for the MORD FUSTANG ABSTRACT FEST PRE PARTY are on sale for $25 a piece. You no longer have to buy a flex pass ticket to Abstract fest to go to the pre-party!! However if you do plan to go to both, you should buy the flex pass as you’ll save yourself about $15-$20 bucks in the process ;)

Soooo, change of plans. Sadly, Soul Clap and Wolf + Lamb are trapped in the East Coast clusterfuck of natural disasters and thus will not be able to make it to SD tonight. Sad face.

However international DJ duo of “merry pranksters” Thugfucker, and San Francisco tech house imprint Pillowtalk have formed a party rescue mission and will be taking over Analog bar tonight for our poor Hurricane Irene displaced compadres. And they will be joined by SD’s own Jon Dadon, Colour Vision, Boys Don’t Disco, Collin Perry, and Mikey Lion.

If you’ve shared a drink with me on any given night in the last year at El Dorado or U31, you indeed would’ve been audibly enlightened to Thugfucker‘s original “Disco Gnomes”. (Video)

Thugfucker – Disco Gnomes (Tales of Us Remix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Inspired by the great singers of the 50s & 60s, SF’s king of “soul dance” Pillowtalk’s Sammy D has a swoon-inducing voice that’s been paired successfully with equally enthralling smooth disco productions. Pillowtalk’s latest release “Love Makes Parks” recently made Beatport’s “Top 10 Must Hear Nu Disco Tracks” and with their forthcoming productions soon to be on their way, it’s likely we’ll be hearing a lot more from this swingworthy triad very soon.

Pillowtalk – Love Makes Parks

Seems to me that this back-up plan, is a very fine plan for good times ahead this evening, indeed.

We wish our pals Soul Clap & Wolf+Lamb safe travels and look forward to their rescheduled date to play in SD very soon!

If San Diego knows how to do one thing right, it’s how to go ALL FUCKING OUT on three-day holiday weekends. And this Labor Day weekend will be no different.

With profuse opportunities to booze it up, come home with awkward sun burns and get all out weird, it can be a bit daunting sorting through all the Facebook event muck to find the true rage-worthy getaways. We’ve taken on the task of sorting through the riff raff and we’ve curated our perfect guide of all the top-notch happenings going on all around our sunny county. By the beach, in the city, indoors, outdoors, cheese and no cheese we’ve locked down the best ragers around town, all in this easy to access when you’re buzzed party guide.

The only labor you should be doing this weekend, should be at the bar and on the dancefloor. Throw on your sunnies, stash your flask in a fanny pack, and get to work.

We had this following track in Soundcloud form in last week’s Moombahton Monday round-up however Royinho kindly sent us the full version of his stellar and club floor ready reflip of Suavemente for our Mixsters to enjoy! Follow Royinho on Twitter for more future Cumbia inspired mid tempo goodness.

As I am exploring Moombahton more and more each week, the very versatility of the genre itself, has never failed to astound me. The most fascinating thing about Moombahton is its virtually infinite ability to be reimagined and readily assimilated into any audio context.

This moombahcore sample below is a space-age, almost industrial-techno take on the genre. While it certainly evades all currently “suggested” forms of moombahton (specifically, it lacks those Latin/tropical samples/percussion) the track itself acts as a loophole; as an invitation for more artists of all various realms of sounds, to participate in influencing and enhancing our (already capricious) broad definition of the genre. Tracks like this one below, although maybe not particularly appealing to most Moombah heads, nonetheless demonstrates Moombahton’s rare ability to transcend traditional genre confines.

Hardcore Science (feat Dolls) – Quait

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

More than anything I’m still trying to wrap my head around this next track… Would this be considered Fidget-ton? If so, does that officially make it DOOMbahton!?

Andy Kisaragi – Spunnn (oh yeah)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

What happens when Witchhouse meets Moombahton? Well that’s currently what several artists including David Heartbreak are starting to explore. In the meantime here’s an approved “Brujahton” track by way STLKRFXXX out of Chicago that’s definitely worth a sniff.

STLKRFXX – Death & Decay

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID HEARTBREAK. COME TO SAN DIEGO SOON PLEASE. <3

Summer is finally winding down to a close, the books are being re-opened for a new school year, and the nights are starting earlier and earlier (can’t complain, more time to party!).
