Last night was like any other Wednesday night: Browsing the internet on my laptop and checking Facebook on my phone at the same time. Once I realized how ridiculous this was, I casually looked around to make sure no one saw. Sadly, this is far from the first time this has happened. My technological A.D.D. isn’t limited to social media networking either. My inclination to spend copious amounts of time messing around on my phone and computer also extends itself into music software. With that, I thought I’d direct your attention to a handful of proper music apps that we believe have proven themselves worthy of their price tag.
iMashine – $4.99 (Apple’s App store only)
This app basically condenses the Maschine from Native Instruments into a nifty app. iMaschine is a fun, easy-to-learn beat studio in your pocket. It consists of 4 groups that can any combination of 16 -spot beat pads, keyboard, or audio recording. It comes with 400 individual samples which can be easily added to by either recording your own or buying expansions in the app store. I love this app! It’s a great time killer and really makes me want to upgrade to getting an actual Maschine. With Christmas right around the corner, Native Instruments’ ploy might just have worked on me.
Tap DJ – $0.99 (Apple’s App store only)
Tap DJ makes it easy to mix music from your own iPod library on the go. Whether you’re a pro or like me… lacking in musical skill or any where in between, this app is for you. Looping takes a only seconds to learn (admittedly longer to master). You can even record and share your own live mixes with the built in features. You’ll be the king or queen of the speaker system on your next road trip.
Ultimate Guitar Tabs – $2.99 (Android and Apple)
For all guitar and bass players out there: YOU NEED TO GET THIS APP. The $3 this will set you back is completely justified when you realize how useful it is to be able to search Ultimate Guitars gigantic tab library on the fly. Want to learn the latest crappy Bruno Mars song? Me neither, but it might come in handy if you’re trying to woo a group of young ladies. Yes….. a group of ladies. It is easy to create your own playbook by saving songs to your favorites. The app even comes with tab packs that are sorted by genre and level of difficulty, so even if you don’t know what song you want to play you’ll find something worth playing.
Bonus: Virtual DJ: Free DJing software for the computer that packs a considerable amount of power.
