Let me be honest with you, my brain needs constant stimulation. Even when I try to allow myself time to rest, I end up bored and in need of something to keep my brain preoccupied (hey, it’s an ADD world we’re living in). Same thing goes for music, I need to be constantly stimulated. I need something new, I need something clever, and I need it now! Thankfully, there is a little venue called the Kava Lounge. There, sneaky beat scene kids hold their gatherings and present music that makes you say “Oh damn!”
In a quick summary (in case you are unfamiliar w/the beat scene), this movement is all about the music and enjoyment of it. It’s experimental, it’s funky, it’s clever, it’s hilarious, it’s emotional, it’s dancey, it is bass and electronic driven. It is what it is and something much to be experienced! I myself am still figuring my way through it, and I am having a blast!
This coming Sunday, August 14th, is a beat event that surely cannot be missed. Putting together a night of all things weird, DiscoNap presents LA based producer TAKE aka Sweatson Klank (Alpha Pup/dublab). TAKE is known to throw down electronic mixes of avant-garde jazz, melodies, and funky head-bobbin good beats. Just on the heels of last year’s successful album “Only Mountain,” an incredible project known as “Only Mountain: The Remixes” was released earlier this year. The album features a diverse group of individuals with remixes from top notch beat kids such as Tokimonsta, Free the Robots, Low Limit, and even TAKE himself. And not to let himself grow stale, TAKE has been working on a new EP as Sweatson Klank. Check out Morning After Pills (Instrumental) – soon to have a “special someone” laying down vocals for the EP.

Can’t wait for the EP? Visit TAKE’s site for two free downloads off of “Only Mountain: The Remixes”. And yes, this remix from Tokimonsta is free!

Also taking the stage at Kava Lounge is newcomer and San Diego native, Alpha Method. This dude may be a fresh face, but he is one to get to know! With only a few shows under his belt (including having opened for Daedelus and Nosaj Thing), the ambitious Alpha Method has put together a collection of groove-worthy tunes for his debut album “Inoculation“. If you are one of the first 50 people to show face at Kava, you’ll be able to snag a physical copy of “Inoculation” for free. But for you impatient and curious Mixsters, I give you an exclusive track that has not yet been released! Just a little sneak peak of what to expect!
The rest of the night is set to be amazing with performances from familiar faces Nino Seneris and Sleeve. Trust that these talented beat kids will be throwing it down! Hippie Sabotage, Mastah Syphe, and Malta round up the rest of the lineup with their unique styles. Visuals for the night will be provided by Cut Mod, so be prepared to have more than your sense of hearing stimulated!
Seriously – this night is going to be a crazy one for anyone who appreciates innovation and music! The event starts at 9pm and is only $5 cover all night. Check out the event invite on Facebook for more details.
