Those of you who attended the Identity Festival in Chula Vista know that it was one hell of a party. Though the crowd was heavily clad in kandi, world-renowned artists including Nero, Pretty Lights, and Kaskade threw down unforgettable sets which could surely be heard from across the border. While I was busy hauling around all my photo equipment, I had the amazing opportunity to shoot a little video for all of you, so enjoy! And if you weren’t there, remember, Abstract is just next week! So pick up your tickets, and let’s throw down everything we’ve got at the San Diego Bayfront! You know the drill. Photos are available right here, or you can see them on TheMixster Facbeook page where you can tag away.

Sure it’s September. The kids go back to school, the days get a little shorter. However, the parties in San Diego, only get BIGGER. With not one, but TWO massive electronic dance music festivals invading our county this month, along with a massive score of even more day raves, pool parties, and saucy club nights all featuring top-tier DJ line-ups as well, SD is far from ready to shut this sunny season down. County-wide denial? Or just an addiction to partying? Who knows, and WHO FUCKING CARES.
The sun’s still out and the rave from noon til dawn switch is still locked to the ON position.
Rave on, Wayne. Rave ON.

IDENTITY FESTIVAL is only two days away! It will no doubt be an appropriate send-off for the final month of Summer time raging. If you’ve frequented the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, then you know this place will be a mad house, especially when you throw in every raver in San Diego and the surrounding 100 miles! To make your travels less of a nightmare, and more of a party on wheels, take note of the following tips.
Parking:
For those of you who don’t mind spending a little extra for comfort, you may purchase a VIP parking pass here, to avoid all the bumper-to-bumper mess that will be going on in the surrounding parking lots.
Regardless of VIP parking, or regular parking, from my past experience at any electronic festival, I would advise you head over to the venue an hour to two hours ahead of schedule. After all, arriving early only means you can start the party earlier!
Directions:
Located 15 minutes South of Downtown San Diego.
2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista, CA 91911
From the North:
I-805 South to Auto Park Drive/Main Street
Exit freeway, turn left onto Auto Park Drive
Follow Auto Park Drive to entrance of Amphitheatre
From the South:

IDENTITY festival on September 4th, was relocated from San Bernardino to the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, making it more convenient for travelers during the holiday weekend. STILL HAPPENING and in full rage effect, IDentity will be using the main Palladium stage as the Skullcandy Main Stage, and the entire Palladium parking lot for the Rockstar Dim Mak stage. The location for the Advent Stage is TBD. Performances at the Hollywood Palladium will include: Pretty Lights, Steve Aoki, Etienne de Crecy, Booka Shade, Pete Tong, Doorly, Le Castle Vania, Nervo, White Shadow, Marshall Barnes, Jessie and The Toy Boys, The Crystal Method, and many more!

If San Diego knows how to do one thing right, it’s how to go ALL FUCKING OUT on three-day holiday weekends. And this Labor Day weekend will be no different.
With profuse opportunities to booze it up, come home with awkward sun burns and get all out weird, it can be a bit daunting sorting through all the Facebook event muck to find the true rage-worthy getaways. We’ve taken on the task of sorting through the riff raff and we’ve curated our perfect guide of all the top-notch happenings going on all around our sunny county. By the beach, in the city, indoors, outdoors, cheese and no cheese we’ve locked down the best ragers around town, all in this easy to access when you’re buzzed party guide.
The only labor you should be doing this weekend, should be at the bar and on the dancefloor. Throw on your sunnies, stash your flask in a fanny pack, and get to work.

I have to say, Outside Lands sure as hell snuck up on me this year. The summer’s been flying past, and just yesterday I remembered that it all goes down in the city, starting August 12th. You can imagine my shock as I scrambled to find a place to stay, buy some supplies, and figure who’s actually going. But that’s all behind us now! So without further adieu, here’s my incredibly late guide to the Outside Lands Music Festival, 2011 edition.
If you’re reading this, you probably already have everything figured out, but here are a couple key points from the top of my head just in case you forgot:
1: The festival is at Golden Gate Park. Parking is scarce, and restricted to the neighborhoods surrounding the venue. Take public transportation if possible (they offer a valet for bikes as well).
2: We are in San Francisco. Everyone will probably be high, and as a result, everyone will be super friendly! You won’t find mosh-pits here, more like spontaneous picnics in the middle of a grass field.
Things To Bring:
Cash – The festival is notorious for its delicious gourmet food vendors, so stock up on cash, cause you’ll want to throw down on the occasional oyster or cup of champagne.
Good Shoes – I was here the year before last, and if there’s one thing I regret, it was not bringing better shoes. With a running time of 9-10 hours per day, for 3 straight days, and stages that tend to be just a little farther apart than most of us would find comfortable, there’s no doubt that you’ll be on your feet a LOT.
Water – The festival does allow you to bring 2 sealed water bottles inside (up to 1 liter each) as well as empty Nalgene’s or Camelback’s, so take advantage of this and save a little money by bringing your own water. They also sell Outside Lands metal bottles inside the park for $15 a pop. This provides you with free water refills for all 3 days. Yummy.
A Backpack – Unlike most music festivals, Outside Lands does allow regular size backpacks. If you’re going with a group of people, have one person throw a little something over their shoulders, you won’t regret it. Great place to stash wallets, phones, cameras, water bottles, drugs, jackets, puppies, or whatever else you try to bring in.
Sunscreen and Shades – Like the name says, the festival is Outside, and it’s during the hottest part of the day. In a wide open field. You do NOT want to look like a lobster on day two, because nobody wants to be in pain while they’re raging to Muse‘s set.
And here are the two most important pieces of information you will ever need. Lineup information, and a map.
Things Not To Bring:
Light Gloves – We don’t wanna see those fancy things at an event like this! Deadmau5 and Major Lazer are pretty much the only EDM acts mixing up the whole alternative rock vibe, so they wouldn’t really fit in.
DSLR Camera – I know you all want to bring in a high quality piece of glass to get the best shots of your favorite artists, but you’ve got to leave it to the professionals on this one. However, you are totally allowed to bring in a point and shoot, so go crazy!
You Know the Rest – No huge backpacks, no glass, no fireworks, no guns, etc. You know the drill!
That’ll just about do it for my pre-festival coverage. Keep an eye out for white Mixster V-Neck or some GottaDanceDirty apparel, and blonde hair. If you see me, don’t neglect to yell out my name and say hey! Let the festivities begin! And stay tuned for some post-festival coverage.

(Call ahead to avoid disappointment!!)
Given the The Pearl Hotel‘s unbelievably charming and almost hidden locale, manicured impeccably with thoughtfully retro-chic decor, you’d expect that this would be the type of spot we’d like to keep to ourselves. But this place is a local secret too good to keep from our friends.
Let’s talk incredible: The Corn Bread Benedict – Pasilla Chili cornbread topped with juicy house bacon, perfectly poached eggs, cheddar cream, and brown sugar butter — is absolutely to die for. If you plan to exhibit any kind of poised modesty during the meal do not order this dish: say good bye to your composure because you sista have just bought yourself a membership to the clean plate club. And how o so divine it feels…
If you’re hunting for something a little less over the top, but still tantalizing palatable, it doesn’t get more simply put than Bacon & Grits: two eggs served any style atop the tender bacon slab and yellow grits, drizzled with a basil pesto and a Pomodoro sauce. Sure, it isn’t what you’d expect if you were coming for “simple” — but it’s certainly all the best of those comfortable and rich flavors that when combined together you’ll accept with nothing less than pure delight.
And aww yes, for my fellow sugar fiends out there, you have met your match with the Almond-Stuffed French Toast. Decadent, with a right balance and eye for texture, con pane baguette is sauteed to delicate perfection and stuffed with highly-addictive ground almond butter, topped with fresh, plump local berries (ours were delicious blackberries) and just the right amount of sticky Créme Anglaise. Another dish whose presence during our meal could only be detected by just the mere berry stains that were left on our plates as evidence…
For just $20, you get your meal and bottomless mimosas to your heart’s content. Served in nearly goblet-sized stemware and no lack of cute waitresses bouncing around and graciously refilling your glass to the tippy top, the Pearl’s bottomless mimosa brunch is no laughing matter — well, unless you count the champagne giggles… With The Pearl’s supremely fair hotel room rates and a kidney bean shaped pool that beckons your name all throughout breakfast, there is no reason to shuffle together a few fun friends and make a day, and night of the fabulous affair. Cheers.
MIX tip: Follow the Pearl Hotel on Twitter (@thepearlhotel) — every so often they announce they will be hosting a 1/2 off brunch for anyone who rides their bike to The Pearl that day!!

We had heard about the transformation of Banker Hill’s Ave 5 plenty before we knew we had to stop in and see the changes for ourselves. A new look, a tidy up of its decor, and even a drastic shift in their perspective and position on the food itself, certainly made the interior feel a bit more lively, however it was that increased feeling of excitement throughout the place that really drew us in. Promises of bottomless mimosas were also persuasive arguments as well.
The menu offers an assortment of various Franco-American inspired selections, ranging from the Brioche French Toast and Croque Madame to more California-minded fare, such as the Huevos Verdes and Farmer’s Omelet. Unfortunately they did not have the Soyrizo that morning, a palate arousing combination with jalapeños, onions, fluffy eggs, and soy chorizo, and served with a side of fresh flour tortillas, but my second option however, didn’t disappoint. The Florentine Benedict was served with browned bits of cubed potatoes and caramelized onions, alongside the main event: two toasted English muffins topped with an assortment of flavorful and zesty sauteed wild greens, perfectly poached eggs, modestly coated in velvety hollandaise. The serving portion was spot on, as was the flavor — while nothing stood out brilliantly in the combination, the savory flavor of the greens paired just right with the richness of the eggs and smooth hollandaise, making for a bright, well-balanced dish.
We also went with the Salmon Sandwich: Served on a multi-grain bread with cucumber and a house cream cheese spread, alongside a salad of fresh crisp mixed greens that was ever so lightly drizzled in a peppery dressing, the dish would appeal to those who seek more savory options even during the early hours.
We ordered a bowl of fruit to balance out our savory selections, which came in plentiful form — cubed bits of fresh apples, melons, kiwis, strawberries and plump fresh blackberries to top it was a refreshing addition to the meal that I certainly would not overlook if I were you…
MIX TIP: Ave 5′s website is still under-construction but if you’d like to check out Ave 5′s full breakfast menu in the meantime click here.
