The sonic glowave movement out of Sweden, otherwise known as the band Miike Snow performed Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 to a completely sold out show and a packed house at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California.

Donning their signature “Phantom of the Opera”-inspired masks and beneath the cast of deep blue lights and an inorganic foggy-ness to achieve that ghostly, indie vibe, Miike Snow performed within the Belly Up’s intimate setting; and to probably one of the best looking crowds The Belly Up Tavern has ever seen — as hipsters in their early to mid-twenties prominently made up the majority of the audience.

As expected the atmosphere became hot and heavy as jiving bodies swayed to Mike Snow’s catchy glo-pop hits “Animal” and “Black and Blue” and their wildly catchy “chillectro” hit “Silvia” – which you could barely hear them play above the audience as they gleefully chanted along. When performed live, “Burial” is without a doubt one of my favorite Miike Snow tracks: Slowly reverberating xylophone keys each played in a perfectly cheerful pitch, invokes a state of hypnosis that spreads wide across the crowd and wall to wall with each chilling echo — gorgeous.

A huge thank you to Chris Cantore, of NBC SoundDiego and LegitRadio.com, and Gary Clapp for coming through with a press pass for me at the very last minute. Much appreciated guys!

Still wanta ride the lip of the synth-glowave? Check out Neon Indian at The Casbah TONIGHT — if tickets haven’t already sold out by the time I finish writing this, they will be soon. Get’em here

Thursday, May 27th will be our inaugural LOCAL PRODUCE event held on the IVY rooftop, at the Andaz Hotel.

This special event, hosted by TK Productions, DTown Productions, and TheMixster.com (!!), will spotlight those innovative and talented pioneers within San Diego’s creative underground: Each of which strive daily to make a positive impact on our local culture, and are personally driving San Diego’s evolution — to becoming an increasingly relevant and significant artistic hub, on the global scale. The Andaz, formerly known as the IVY Hotel, has given us this special opportunity to showcase these awesome creative individuals in a local and central part of Downtown San Diego, that is far enough away from the Gaslampland hype that would otherwise take away from the attention and praise our Local Produce deserves! With incredible views of all of Downtown’s skyline, and catching the season’s first warm summer breezes, we will be celebrating on the IVY rooftop, and basking in the talent that is San Diego’s very own Local Produce.

GO DEEPER: Get to know the souls behind the stage names: DJ HeadShake, DJ Craig Smoove, and DJ Groundfloor; and our other Local Produce picks: Ben DeCamp, Kevin Bonner, The Infusion Project, and Chris Cantore. And pick up some free tunes as well, after the flip!

And, there’s not much more I can say than that… LegitRadio.com, is ridiculously legit. From here on forward TheMixster.com will be on Chris Cantore’s Morning show around 10am (internet radio is pretty relaxed…) every Friday, to give you run down of what’s what for the weekend. So tune in, and be entertained by two very attention-deficit and unnecessarily-caffeinated bumble bees at The Hive babbling about the buzz going down that weekend. Along with the other irrelevant tidbits and unrelated anecdotes that are undoubtedly going to transpire. Holla!

If you’ve missed our radio last Wednesday, In The MIX with TheMixster.com on LegitRadio.com here is a little guest spot we did on Chris Cantore’s morning show this past Friday (3/26) where we gave a solid rundown of what was going down in nightlife this past weekend. We also talked a little about the new concept from The El Dorado boys & Neighborhood going into Little Italy very soon, in the former Illume Bistro venue, and also a little about Fleetwood’s new concept making its way into Pacific Beach this summer in the former Hooter’s building; which is undoubtedly some of the most prime real estate PB has to offer. And of course, the usual goofy discourse was very much present as well as some trash talk for my gold TOMS from the lovely Robin Roth.
