The sonic glowave movement out of Sweden, otherwise known as the band Miike Snow performed Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 to a completely sold out show and a packed house at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California.
Donning their signature “Phantom of the Opera”-inspired masks and beneath the cast of deep blue lights and an inorganic foggy-ness to achieve that ghostly, indie vibe, Miike Snow performed within the Belly Up’s intimate setting; and to probably one of the best looking crowds The Belly Up Tavern has ever seen — as hipsters in their early to mid-twenties prominently made up the majority of the audience.
As expected the atmosphere became hot and heavy as jiving bodies swayed to Mike Snow’s catchy glo-pop hits “Animal”and “Black and Blue”and their wildly catchy “chillectro” hit “Silvia” – which you could barely hear them play above the audience as they gleefully chanted along. When performed live, “Burial”is without a doubt one of my favorite Miike Snow tracks: Slowly reverberating xylophone keys each played in a perfectly cheerful pitch, invokes a state of hypnosis that spreads wide across the crowd and wall to wall with each chilling echo — gorgeous.
