I feel like the title is self-explanatory.

1. HARVARD BASS + Anthony Attalla at the W Hotel

From personal experience, I am 100% convinced this will be an amazing party. We were asked to host an ALL locals NYE party W Hotel wide last year, and honest to G it is still in my mind one of the coolest parties I have ever done. This year, they’ve bolstered the roster up a B-I-G notch, featuring SD’s hometown hero HARVARD BASS and Anthony Attalla.

Harvard Bass has thrown down some epic performances this year, and just last week at El Dorado he threw down an off-the-wall party-jam laden set that totally lit the place up and quickly facilitated the knocking back of gratuitous amounts of drinks. I have no doubt Harvard Bass will shut down the old year and ring in the new year the right away. And if it’s anything like it was last year, The W Hotel certainly won’t throw an anything less than stellar shindig. Pricey, but worth it. $80.

PRO MIX TIP: DEFINITELY GET A HOTEL ROOM. Trying to find a taxi home from Little Italy on NYE is an absolute NIGHTMARE. And the rooms were made for after parties…  Search Hotel Rates Here

2. TIMEWAVE ZERO feat. EPROM + EshOne + Mike Gao + More at Kava Lounge

SD’s beats scene and the corresponding local artists have been rapidly gaining attention, and thus the heavyweights of the scene SUBLMNL, LIQUID GEOMETRY, and DATASET are coming together and throwing a massive end-of-the-year SHUT DOWN party. SF’s EPROM will be headlining the evening, and good homie of TheMixster.com, EshOne (aka DON VALDEZ) will be high-tailing it from ABQ to ring in the New Year with rumored exclusives-just-for-the-evening: a collection of ball-dropping, sticky-floor-inducing countdown closers. Other not-to-miss sets of the evening from Mike Gao, HMT DMT and Misk will certainly be worth every penny of the thrifty $15 presale $20 ticket.

That not enough to convince you? Then check THIS baybay out:

3. El Dorado’s ROARING NEW YEARS EVE PARTY

Of course, El Dorado is going to have an amazing NYE party. I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t. The optional theme of “1920s Flapper attire” is a great excuse to feed that empty space in my heart left by the season finale of “Boardwalk Empire” and trusted locals The Office Twins, Groundfloor, Adam Salter, and Blancnoire will be behind the decks. If you RSVP & arrive before 10:30pm entry is only $10! And bottles of champagne are only $25 a pop (pun!) all night long. A sure fire win all around

4. LED PRESENTS: OMFG! At SD Sports Arena.

On NYE I personally opt for the more intimate family and friends inside neighborhood bar dance parties. However, the line-up as always for LED PRESENTS’ NYE bash is resoundingly epic, and if you have the heart to brave the rave this NYE, I would without a doubt point you this very direction. It’s San Diego’s own Wonderland, TAO/ whatever else is going on in LA experience, conveniently being held just 10 minutes away from Downtown SD. 18+/21+ to booze. $75-$150. 21+ Ticket price includes entry to 5am NYD party at Voyeur.

5. GET SEXUAL w/ EVOL INTENT + REID SPEED + GRIDLOK at Brick by Brick

This is without a doubt the best DnB party happening in ALL of California on NYE. The line-up couldn’t be more stacked with massive names from all over the bass music realm including Gridlok, EVOL INTENT, Reid Speed, along with SD’s own trusted inner circle of local jungle heads. And the price is right entry wise $25 so if DnB is your steeze, this is 100% where you will want to be NYE. Party goes til 3AM and there will be hosted well drinks & beer from 9pm-10pm.

5. BALLIN OUTTA TOWN– Snow Globe Festival

At this very moment in time, I am still kicking myself for not going to this. Had the transportation options from San Diego been somewhat less nightmarish and complicated I would be at Snow Globe Festival in an absolute HEARTBEAT. The line-up for the 3 day festival taking place in South Lake Tahoe is brilliant, fresh, essentially, the top-notch peak of the gold standard. Our friends at BLAP Productions are throwing an after party after each night of the festival, each with incredible (and obviously envy-inducing) line-ups of their own. Tickets are $150 for all three days, hotel rates are reasonable, and the experience we can only predict, will have the rest of us kicking ourselves for the rest of the year. FUCK.

Buy Tickets Here

There’s an option for NYE that fits anyone’s budget and we know any party that’s made our short list, will certainly not disappoint. Follow us on Twitter, and we’ll keep you up-to-date on after parties/NYD party action cuz we’ll no doubt be dawn-lurking about with the rest of you crackheads.

Happy New Year Mixsters!!!

Ahoy sailors! Cruising into the San Diego bay this week/weekend (the 16th thru the 20th) is the infamous 34th annual America’s World Cup, one of a series of races featuring some of the world’s fastest and most high tech catamarans. Teams from around the globe will be competing for the oldest trophy in international sport. After a 15 year absence from Northern America, the World Cup is coming back with a bang; and doubling as a EDM-loaded concert series as well. Who would be featured at a prestigious boating event you may ask? None other than Diplo (!!!!) and Chromeo (!!!!) The Cataracs, K. FlayThe Donkeys, The Silent Comedy along with 16 other artists performing this weekend as well!

The music all starts once the racing dies down, and the only entrance fee is a suggested donation of $10, proceeds benefiting ocean conservation projects.

You know as well as I do, that you almost can’t get access to top-notch entertainment like this anywhere for free/$10!!! And in San Diego. While the musical aspect of this event may seem unrelated to the racing, it retains a nautical theme as the stage is scheduled to be set up between the Navy and Broadway Pier’s (the same stunning venue where Abstract Festival was held!).

And there will be a wine and beer garden. Not like you needed any more incentive to go.

I made a handy little condensed schedule so you know all the events that you shouldn’t miss throughout the day. Basically anything racing or music-related!

Wednesday, November 16th
[Racing 1:00-4:00]
Agua Dulce 4:15-5:45pm

Thursday, November 17th
[Racing 1:00-4:00]
The Donkeys 5:15-6:15pm
Little Hurricane 7:00-8:00pm
The Silent Comedy 8:15-9:30pm

[Miguel Vega - VJIng all afternoon following the races!]

Friday, November 18th
[Racing 1:00-4:00]
Earth Amplified 4:15-5:15pm
The Soft Pack 6:30-7:30pm
K Flay 7:45-8:30pm
Chromeo 8:30-10:00pm

Saturday, November 19th
[Racing 1:00-4:00pm]
The Chain Gang of 1974 5:45-6:45pm

The Background:
As a Northern California native, I’ve spent my fair share of New Year’s Eves watching the fireworks explode over the shimmering waters of Lake Tahoe, CA from the Sunnyside Restaurant (which was always the place to be for NYE in Tahoe). This year, Lake Tahoe is jumping into the global party scene by throwing a party incorporating the excitement of a show that would normally be found in NYC or LA, in a location known for its world-class snow, an event aptly named SnowGlobe. You’ve probably seen the hype all over the interwebs by now, as people are coming from all corners of the nation, sucking up advance tickets within hours of their availability for a festival that’s bound to change your perception of New Year’s Eve.

SnowGlobe is the sister of Colorado’s SnowBall Festival, a festival which is known to instigate an avalanche of bookings on local hotels and kick-start the ski season (which means you better book now). The lineup is STACKED, with heavy-hitters galore, ranging from Bassnectar to Dillon Francis, and OWSLA members Porter Robinson and The M Machine... Not to mention about 40 other artists representing a wide variety of EDM sub-genres.

So, apart from the lineup, why attend this festival over all the other parties that will be ringing in the New Year of 2012? Location, location, location. Need I say more?! At what other festival in California – or about 47 other states for that matter – can you hit the slopes during the day, watch your favorite EDM artists at night, and even gamble in your spare time?? Not to mention the abundance of sexy little snow bunnies hopping around the mountain, who will be needing an extra cozying up to as most of the stages will be outdoors.

Regular 3-day passes are on sale now for $149.95 + surcharge. Pick them up here!

The Lineup:
Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, Figure, Kraddy, Blockhead, Dillon Francis, Doctor P, Big Gigantic, Porter Robinson, Ill-Esha, Eliot Lipp, Fishbone, The M Machine, Mux Mool, NastyNasty, Antiserum, Tipper, Run DMT, Satellite, Robotic Pirate Monkey, Heyoka, Phutureprimitive, HOTTUB, R/D, Mansions on the Moon, Ben Samples, EMANCIPATOR, Dr Israel, B. Bravo, Paper Diamond.

All the other information regarding the show (parking, items allowed inside, FAQ) will be up on their website in the next few days. See you on the slopes!

The day has come and gone, but the legendary progressive house master Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) recently graced San Diego with his presence for his first ever stadium show. A night full of monsters, mau5 heads, sketchy dirty-looking rats, skeletons, sparkly sluts, and tripped out fairies basically gave us an extra holiday, a pre-Halloween, where anyone felt right at home hitting the streets showcasing their fancy outfits; Even Joel donned his ghostly sheet and, with the help of Sofi, persuaded a fan to pass up their custom made mau5 head. After lulling the crowd into a trance with his classic progressive house tracks, he dropped the ever-drippy, strung-out “One Trick Pony” sung by the talented Mrs. Sofi, instantly snapping the crowd back into reality and sending arms flailing into the night sky. Lasers and lights galore, Petco Park was torn to pieces, eventually unleashing the spookily dressed crowd to infiltrate the city streets and seek out one of many abundant after-parties. Stoked to see the inevitable, as more EDM events take over such massive venues in San Diego. Peep all photos on the Facebook page!

Night Access presents the double headliner of Minnesota and San Diego’s own, Vokab Kompany, will be bringing the heat to one of San Diego’s finest Halloween night shows— HalloWeird. From complete opposite sides of the musical spectrum, these two will make the crowd groove and go completely bonkers. Minnesota, a personal favorite, had bass and unearthly synths coursing through my body for days after his monster set at Abstract Festival. Vokab Kompany will jamming to one of their live sets–which if you haven’t seen, is a-freaking-mazing. We are especially amped to see close homie of TheMixster.com, Craig Smoove, on the line-up and hope that he will drop some of his fiiiilthy underground Chicago bass music bangers. We will be raging til 4am, and rounding off the night will be DJ Carlo, Jessie Molloy (Crush Effect), Cheyenne Giles, and Boonie Walker. I couldn’t think of a better way to top off an out-of-this-world Halloween weekend. The Keating Hotel has yet to see and, frankly, feel something this massive. Buy your tickets here.

A sampler platter of the madness we are about to experience:

Shotgun Radio – A Bad Place feat. Mimi Page (Minnesota Remix) (FORTHCOMING SIMPLIFY) by Minnesota

As if San Diego didn’t spoil us enough with the firepower brought in for last weekend’s Identity Festival (photo gallery), the fine folks at Revelus—who put on Radius Festival this past  March—hook it up once again with an absolutely chilling lineup for Abstract Festival. With the likes of Minnesota, Mimosa, Downlink, and Liquid Stranger throwing down on Sept. 10th, we should keep an eye on the Richter Scale for any ensuing bassquakes. For this reason, I fear that our perfect venue over at The San Diego Bayfront Project may end up taking a dip into the ocean.

Let’s take a closer look and spotlight some of our favorite talent at this year’s Abstract Festival:

Something about Minnesota’s music speaks to me like few others’ music can. Currently my favorite producer, Minnesota drops some straight gangsta shit. For those who aren’t too familiar with this cat, he has the potential to launch this festival to a WHOLE ‘notha level. And I have no doubt that he will do just that. Unleashing absolute bangers with the perfect use of vocals and unworldly sounds, Minnesota’s set is sure to leave its witnesses begging for more. Seriously gives me the chills just thinking about the absolute carnage we are all about to witness.

MINNESOTA – LET YOUR LOVE GROW

MINNESOTA – MY DIP IN THE CLUB

Just like Minnesota, Mimosa goes H.A.M! With his new 58 Degrees EP dropping earlier this year, Mimosa surely has some sort of genius firing in his noggin. Lucky for us, we are next in line to experience the Mimosa effect.

MIMOSA – STAIRWAY

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Excision and Z-Trip are no longer on the line-up for Saturday. I was bummed when I caught wind of this—as most people were. BUUUUT, don’t fret because Downlink and Liquid Stranger made their way onto this already stacked line-up. In my opinion, this switcharoo actually IMPROVED the quality of the festival’s talent. Sorry Excision, I still love you but I am obligated to speak the truth. Don’t believe me? I guess we will have to wait till Saturday to see. Word around town is that these two juggernauts leave NO survivors, so be prepared to rage till you drop.

DOWNLINK – YEAH

Dub Gabriel feat. MC Zulu – No Lies (Liquid Strangers Tactile Evasion Mix)

As if the Abstract line-up wasn’t massive enough already, OSAL8—a San Diego based DJ—will be throwing down one of his massive sets. The first time I saw this man live at Radius Festival, he blew me away with his talent and the energy he brings to the table. No joke, his set was right up there with the likes of Datsik and Zeds Dead whom he preceded. DO NOT overlook this guy.

Don’t forget to snag your tickets to the Abstract Pre-Party, on Friday (9/9) headlined by Mord Fustang. Now being held at Tango Del Ray, it’s guaranteed to be a wild night. Check out our pre-party preview for free audio goodness and for tickets here!

MIX EXCLUSIVE: “ABSURDLY THIRTY” $30 Tix!!!
Starting NOW (9/5) and for the next 24 hours ONLY Abstract Festival will be selling GA tickets for $30!!! Get your tix now before this deal expires!!

Ahhh the anticipation is seriously killing me!!

IDENTITY FESTIVAL is only two days away! It will no doubt be an appropriate send-off for the final month of Summer time raging. If you’ve frequented the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, then you know this place will be a mad house, especially when you throw in every raver in San Diego and the surrounding 100 miles! To make your travels less of a nightmare, and more of a party on wheels, take note of the following tips.

Parking:
For those of you who don’t mind spending a little extra for comfort, you may purchase a VIP parking pass here, to avoid all the bumper-to-bumper mess that will be going on in the surrounding parking lots.

Regardless of VIP parking, or regular parking, from my past experience at any electronic festival, I would advise you head over to the venue an hour to two hours ahead of schedule. After all, arriving early only means you can start the party earlier!

Directions:
Located 15 minutes South of Downtown San Diego.
2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista, CA 91911

From the North:
I-805 South to Auto Park Drive/Main Street
Exit freeway, turn left onto Auto Park Drive
Follow Auto Park Drive to entrance of Amphitheatre

From the South:
I-805 North to Auto Park Drive/Main Street
Exit freeway, turn right onto Auto Park Drive
Follow Auto Park Drive to entrance of Amphitheatre.

Alternative Transportation:
Party Naked has an awesome deal going on for PARTY BUSES to and from the event. For both an event ticket and transportation the deal is $65, or just $25 for transportation alone! And both ticket prices include alcohol on the bus! (!!!)
RSVP here on their event page for more info and to reserve your spot on the bus!
