If Kanye West had a filthy love child with the entire lot of LCD Soundsystem, its offspring would be the duo known as The Hood Internet! Based straight out of the Chi (that’s Chicago for those of you unfamiliar with hip-hop vernacular), The Hood Internet brings forth clever-danceworthy mash-ups that tug at the hearts of indie kids, but keep the hip-hop lovers’ heads bobbing and grooving along to sick beats.
The masterminds behind The Hood Internet are Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV). After having been in a band that they describe as “arty pop,” both Brink and Reidell began producing beats for their rapper friends. The duo later transitioned into creating mash-ups and began posting their creations regularly to their blog – which was mostly intended for themselves and their friends. Word spread of their unique blend of hip hop and indie rock throughout the blog world, and soon the duo was in demand in venues as far away as Korea! Goes to show you that pure talent + the internet = gold!
DO NOT MISS this chance to see The Hood Internet right here in San Diego, February 22nd at The Loft (at UCSD)!! These dudes are multi-talented, and last I heard, they still have day jobs! Think they’re probably running out of sick days at this point so definitely be sure to catch them while they are on tour NOW!!
To get you in the Hood mood, check out these tracks I am currently digging: “Fuck The Club Up x Sleigh Bells x Salem” seriously is self-explanatory! It’s fist-pumping in ways that will get you trouble!

“Sprawl of Glass” contains no hip-hop but “Heart of Glass” is a classic that appeals to all audiences. The Hood Internet beautifully mixes the track with Arcade Fire’s “Sprawl II” – and let me tell you, my jaw dropped at the perfect relationship between the two songs.

Since Summer is just around the corner we thought it would be a good idea to throw together a style/life guide of some cool new shit you should buy/wear/ use. Most of the items in here are from lesser known companies that are making innovative and super-quality goods. There’s even a sleek little tool that will help you get buzzed out in public, while still flying under the radar. Perfect for baseball season.
Mr. White and James Monroe, two LA based DJs, will be venturing away from home for a night to pull a full on auditory assault on Voyeur’s decks this Saturday, April 17th.
