When accessing the collection of talented producers that our beloved city shelters, there is repeatedly one group that stands out above the rest… .Grey Ghost. Bubblegum Sci-Fi… and Anthony Ross.
And if you didn’t realize yet… they are all in fact side projects of Ross.
This genre traversing producer and DJ is a modern day chameleon in the dance music world; exchanging hats and guises in the pursuit of the ever rewarding dance-floor killer, and doing so with the grace and consistency of a seasoned veteran.
This week Mr. Ross chose to grace us with an audio gem from his self-titled moniker.. “Anthony Ross,” which he has branded as a late night banging house collection fit for the biggest nightclubs and crowds. Mr. Groove gets the Ross touch, transforming the funky original from a jazz flute-laden soulful party jam into a dark and heavily emotional house banger. Check out the original for yourself here put out by Mr. Groove’s own digital label, Pure Funk Records.
Believe feat. Sandy Huff (Anthony Ross Remix) – Mr. Groove
With an intro beat that is reminiscent of the latest Dutch House anthems, the track immediately sets the rhythm and tone. While a softer keyboard line adds the signature Ross emotion and touch, leading to Sandy Huff’s powerful and soulful vocal breakdown with a build-up message that had me “believing” upon first listen.
Cue the drop .. a thumping kick with jacking pitch bent highs interlaced with vocal samples and and staggered piano chords
Need I truly say more?
Well I’m going to anyways. If you aren’t already, be on the lookout for Anthony Ross’s new tracks coming soon. Given his, inevitable, rise to the top of the DJ/production world in the coming years, I predict an elaboration on this sound. And I encourage a further exploration of this sub genre that I’m going to coin;
Soulful Dutch House
