If one were to make a wrong turn and merely stray one block away from Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach, one would stumble upon one of PB’s hidden treasures: Isabel’s Cantina. With a unique, bohemian yet refined décor, Isabel’s offers cuisine that deliciously marries Latin American flavors and Far East infusions.
With diverse, yet strangely familiar offerings on its menus, Isabel’s Cantina caters to finicky eaters as well as to seasoned epicureans.
After a big night out, Isabel’s serves up a delicious brunch that will help to put the kick back in your step. The Coconut French Toast (pictured)- soaked in a coconut milk-based batter and generously coated in sweet flaky coconut, is topped with fresh strawberries and bananas, and finished with a touch fresh berry coulis- is AH-mazing. A great companion to this dish is the Raspberry Royale Mimosa- made with fresh puree and champagne- is totally worth its $6 dollar price tag.
For palates craving a serious wake-up call, the Soy Chorizo (give it a chance) Scramble with Dragon Potatoes and tortillas served with fresh salsa, has a delightful zesty kick to it.
A curious combination of flavors, the Nuevo Roll-ups, are made with pan fried noodles in a ginger-soy sauce with scallions, cilantro, julienne carrots and celery sprouts, and served in a spinach tortilla, with a side of peanut sauce. The lunch tamales, house made with fire-roasted chilis, are served with black beans, rice, avocado, and a tangy tomatillo sauce- are ridiculously addictive.
For dinner, Isabel’s offers a selection of very affordable and delectable dishes as well: Jidori Chicken prepared in numerous styles, Buddha Bowls- lemongrass-infused coconut broth with shiitake mushrooms, noodles, and topped with scallions- and the Ahi Platter, are all uniquely delicious offerings from Isabel’s Chino-Latino comfort food.
