Off the busy main stretch through Hillcrest, Jake’s on 6th has an innate sense of warmth and graciousness. This family owned and operated space provides a setting that is intentionally romantic- with candles and dim lighting throughout. However, the layout creates a vibe that makes this wine bar very open and convivial as well.

One can chose to sit at the bar that stretches across the length of the space, to chat it up with the bartenders, or to spread out on the sofas- perfect for encouraging intimate one on one chit chat or accommodating crowds, around low-set coffee tables. Huge window-paned doors leading to al fresco dining on the patio are kept open to enjoy the last few hours of light at dusk and give the lounge an added sense of space.

But the vibe at Jake’s on 6th is anything but laid back come night fall; as upbeat and deep house beats set the tone for a more “post-happy hour turning into the wee-hours of the night” social setting. This wine bar is less “after-work business-casual” and more of a destination spot for a night out.

Jake’s offers a selection of cheese boards that are accompanied by an array of delicious fruit and fresh in-house baked bread made daily. Great for sharing, and all for less than $10 a plate, cheeseboards are a fulfilling, yet thrifty way to get your fromage fix.

BEYOND THE PLATTER: Jake’s menu extends its offerings beyond just cheese and charcuterie by serving a wide selection of salads and paninis. The Mixed Berry Salad, with organic baby greens, candied walnuts, blue cheese tossed with a blackberry-champagne vinaigrette, is outstanding. With different panini selections like the Chicken Pesto, Prosciutto Basil and the Americano -which features fresh grilled chicken, mozzarella, pepperoni and arugula – there is a panini to satisfy every palette.

But the best news of all is that ALL the food offerings, and even large platters, can be enjoyed for ten dollars or less! Yes!

On the chalkboard find Jake’s ever-changing selection of over 80 different wines.  Occasional wines offerings include  well-known labels like ZD and Duckhorn, along with a selection of wines from more boutique small scale vineyards.  All bottles are very reasonably priced.
