Maya Vanya: Next Generation DJs + Possibly a Minor Girl Crush…

Creating a post about this past weekend’s Diplo show, and reminiscing all the dance hall, dub step fidget, and tropical tech twists that seemed revolutionary in the moment, made me remember a thoroughly, aurally-exasperating DJ set I had heard several months back that still captivates my sonic membrane: And this particular set actually earned its creators the crown for the 2010 title  of Next Generation DJs“. A worldwide contest that was open to any and all public submissions, judged by some of the world’s greatest electro masters in the game, such as: Dean Watson (Deadmau5manager) Ultra Records’ David Waxman, DJ Sebastian Ingrosso, Beatport founder Jonas Tempel, DJ Mag editor-in-chief Ben Murphy, and Pioneer DJ’s Mark Grotefeld.

So who’s the DJ?! Well change that singular to plural and turn your preconceptions around a full 180 degrees baby:

New Zealand-based Croatian DJ duo of two sisters, Maya Vanya, are not only production pioneers with an impeccable precision for mastering and a future-minded approach to club dance/urban infusions of sound, but their sex appeal coinciding with their saucy sounds cause both the eyes and ears to burst into fiery sizzles. This dynamic DJ duo not only earned the title of “2010′s Next Generation DJs” with flying colors, according to the judges, and, needless to say, contemporaneously raised the bar for progressive sound, but they’ve also demonstrated that cute girls too, can play ball on equal grounds with the top big boys in the global DJ game.

Maya Vanya‘s “The New Sounds of Miami” is not only a technically sophisticated compilation, but it’s got that perfect “LET’S PAR-TAY BITCHES!!” sound that’s undeniably approachable; and most especially pleasing to dance floors in tropical locales, packed body to body with frisky, sweaty strangers.

Rarely does one come across fresh & innovative sounds, that instantaneously gain mass-appeal approval. Maya Vanya have successfully fused the worlds of inventive sonic technicality and dance-ability together with their delightful little number. And we can be damned sure we haven’t heard the last of them: These girls have only started their climb to world domination; and man, they’re off to a helluva start!!
