Today’s MixDown selection comes by way of an absolute top top top favorite of mine, the genius of upfront grime & UK funky and mastermind behind the famed Night Slugs imprint, L-Vis 1990.
Coming off his brilliant and successful “Neon Dreams” LP release and an outstanding set earlier this year on Pete Tong’s Essential Mix (full article + DL here), L-Vis 1990 has since been hinting at some large and thus, highly-anticipated forthcoming moves off his imprint. One such of these aforementioned deliveries was dropped off just this morning: Introducing – “Club Constructions,” a new series of specifically club-ready releases that will operate alongside Night Slugs’ main EPs and white label series.
The first of the CC volumes comes from L-Vis 1990, and the release features 5 courses of “modern-day ghetto hard house” that comes with an unabashed disclaimer, that enforces the release be integrated “strictly for peak time use.” Raw analog slices spliced together with coarse percussion takes listeners and club-floor occupants down a bumpy road of UK funky bassline and and rapidly down a grimy course of futuristic distilled rhythms and miscellaneous choppy keyboard synths. The extra booty-bumping character of his track, “Video Drone” most especially caught my aural attention and no doubt should be a mandatory staple in every DJs’ clubfloor box.
In conjunction with the release, L-Vis 1990 has also provided a free download of his punchy “VHS Crash” cover for his fans to enjoy, which you can download here via the Night Slugs site or simply below.
