It’s been a hot minute since the last music round-up, so I’m thinking we’re long overdue. The last few weeks have been loaded with one fire tune after another, but I’ve decided to narrow it down to a handful of my favorites tracks. This round-up covers all sorts of genres from melodic to head-banging dubstep, glitch-hop, to trapravedub. Whether you’re trying to get down on the dance floor or just kick it poolside, I’ve got you covered. Grab yourself a nice mixed drink and put your speakers on blast. This one’s gonna be good.
First up, we’ve got Labrat’s submission for Clockwork’s “Titan” remix competition. This, like most everything Labrat releases, is absolutely massive. He takes Clockwork’s original big room melody and transforms it into a dubstep banger. Undoubtedly my favorite Labrat release thus far, I think this remix will hold its own against the rest of the competition. Labrat continues to make leaps in his production and is well on his way to accomplishing bigger and better things. Keep an eye out for this cat.
NiT GriT’s latest release—a remix of the widely respected musician Bon Iver—made a lot of noise on the more melodic, chilled out frontier of dubstep. Just under 3 minutes in length, this track is pretty damn near perfection. This is one of those settling tunes that strikes a chord deep inside—managing to push away any and all worries…even if only for 3 min. Having been on tour for most of the year, NiT GriT has been making his name and brand of music known to those far and near. I’m glad to see that he hasn’t lost touch with the style of music that his long-time fans had first gravitated towards.
Alright, I think it’s time to drop some dance floor steez. Thanks to the collaborative effort between Bro Safari and Knuckle Children, I’ve got just the thing to get that “booty perculating” (a choice sample I might add). When Crizzly dropped this at the House of Blues (SD) this last Saturday, the crowd went absolutely BONKERS. That was one of the wilder shows I’d been to in a while. Big ups to Organized Grime and Amplified Access for making it happen. Try to stay seated and listen to this. I dare you. ;]
You know I couldn’t let you get away without throwing some glitch-hop your way. K-Theory always seems to be on-point with their releases, but a couple of weeks ago, they released one of their nuttiest tracks yet. This tune completely caught me off-guard on first listen. With a somewhat subdued intro, it drops into all sorts of glitched-out madness. K-Theory releases a tons of stylistically different tunes so be sure to dig into their soundcloud. There’s enough gold for most anyone’s taste.
Til next time…
