[PREVIEW] HARD Haunted Mansion 2011

Well. Needless to say, it’s obvious where we will be this Halloween weekend.

I know we haven’t even said our farewells to Summer yet, but needless to say, I already too excited to sleep thinking about this destined to be legendary event. It’s rare to come across a line-up that is just act-for-act so spot on. However, leave it up to the masterminds behind HARD to once again deliver an impeccably curated line-up — and a weekend inevitably doomed for sheer chaos.

So why not celebrate a little early with a little fresh tunage from some of the incredibly bad ass characters on this massive line-up? Frankly, I don’t see why we wouldn’t?!

To be honest, I only need to see ONE name on a line-up to convince me to go. And that name is Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Why?

Clad in an extraordinary odd combo, involving an ornate Native American headdress and plush, “Where the Wild Things Are”-inspired dinosaur pants  (equipped with a long tail naturally), suffice it to say, there’s no ignoring TEED’s robust presence. Aside from his eccentric attire, TEED is nonetheless differentiated from other artists for the actual performance aspect of his sets; notably, for singing LIVE over his original tracks. In general, it has been since last March that there’s even  been an opportunity to see TEED perform in SoCal, and personally I wouldn’t miss his set at HARD for anything. TEED’s über hipster disposition and equally edgy indie electro/sappy love songs are easy to fall in love with and even easier to get downright jiggy to. Everything you need, nothing you don’t.

The very man behind the brainchild, HARD’s mastermind Gary Richards, aka DESTRUCTO unleashed his new original “Technology” recently; and he has since enjoyed the play support from EDM elites across the board. Boys Noize even closed out HARD Summer 2011 with the track.

Whoooaaaaaaaa. Skrillex + moombahton… I gotta admit, I like where this is going! I’m more or less grinding my teeth in anticipation for the full version of this collab with equally intriguing duo Knife Party, (made up of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen of legendary Aussie drum n bass three-piece Pendulum) to drop. Which, given poor Skrill’s track record, I’m sure someone is already hard at work yoinking it from deep within the torrentsphere…

My homie HEADSHAKE rinsed this killer Praise You reflip a couple weeks ago, and ever since I have been totally fixated on it. Nothing like a little top-notch grime to breathe new life into a classic.

The first and last time I saw Kingdom play live, he opened up the night at Voyeur Nightclub in San Diego. And his set impressed the hell out of me. When he finished playing, he actually hopped over the DJ booth, veered right through the crowd and headed straight for the bar. Behind the decks and at the bar, it’s clear this guy certainly doesn’t fuck around.
