Although this event has been floating around on our Nightlife Calendar for the past week or so, this occasion is a CAUSE, and it demands extra attention.
THE CAUSE: Celebrating the end of an era with a proper burial & liquor-laden ceremony held on a strobe-lit dance floor.
As you may have heard through the pipeline, after 10+ years, Kadan Club - the strictly NEVER-a-cover-charge, medieval Czech-inspired chess club/discoteque on San Diego’s antique row – is sadly closing its doors. Despite its loyal decade-plus tenure, the new landlords of the recently-acquired property had their eager eyes on “high-end:” they denied the extension of Kadan’s lease, opting instead for something shiny and new. (More on that here.) Taking with them Kadan’s diverse & decisively-quirky lineage of long-withstanding and well-renowned underground-music-pioneering legacies, with the club’s unavoidable demise.
One such legacy in particular is the three year-long residency of San Diego’s Moonshake: the bi-monthly dance floor adventure that parlayed a curious array of ” future disco, spacey house, and techey grooves” led by the charismatic team of three equally hard-working & future-minded amigos, DJs Lee Reynolds, Dazzla, and Mark E Quark.
Moonshake was a night that celebrated indulgence. That aggressively encouraged FUN and aural open-mindedness. That revered the authority of their unabashed selectors who commanded the sweatiest of dance floors. That graciously applauded the efforts of happily debauched patrons, whose unparalleled energy and heavy-handed bar tabs kept the night alive and soaring. All whilst collectively fixated and endlessly wavering in rhythm to the steady gyration of the almighty strobe.
**While there have been hints at the possibility of Moonshake resurrecting elsewhere in the near or not so near future, let’s focus on the present.
Although tonight’s event will be somewhat bittersweet, it will nonetheless be celebrated in high-spirits and lighthearted humor. And gratuitous amounts of terrifyingly-cheap liquor to boot.
To “peacefully put to rest” the many memories of countless debaucherous nights, the theme for the closing Moonshake soiree encourages attendees to come clad a la noir, decked out in their best & more or less party appropriate funeral attire.
Pay your final respects to the party that endlessly sought the most salacious floor-flooding grooves – heavily reinforced by heart-throb-inducing bass bins, the kindest & sexiest humans to celebrate with, and more than anything else: to host a party that was unanimously & forever decidedly, all about HAVING FUN.
TONIGHT :: There will be a champagne toast at 9PM sharp to toast to three very fun & debauched years, and $4 top shelf drinks all night long. The plan is to DRINK THE BAR DRY. And it will take the strength and courage of the whole army to complete tonight’s mission. SO YOU BETTA WERK IT.
WEAR BLACK. DRINK HEAVILY. DANCE ENDLESSLY. AND MAKE TONIGHT UN-FUCKING-FORGETTABLE.
