The trending Nu-Disco scene in the United States has had few heroes as notable and widely accepted as Brookynites HOLY GHOST! who became instant icons after transcending the “I be the Dj” world into the “I can actually play an instrument” world with their, now classic, disco anthems “Hold On,” and “I Will Come Back.” After an extremely sweaty debut performance at El Dorado earlier this year, the duo is back and this time upgrading to the illustrious Voyeur sound stage as they continue on their US/ EURO tour to promote their new EP “Static On the Wire.“
“Static on the Wire”, the debut EP from Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel, aka HOLY GHOST! is a culmination of the work that these two twenty- something year-olds have put into their projects the past few years. Every track easily stands alone as a single, and each respectively in their own right, are extremely successful as both club-ready disco tracks, and indie pop songs for the ever elusive hipster community. Their patented blend of live bass rhythms, italo-style disco beats, analog synth sounds, and effortless vocal hooks have set the standard for all nu-disco producers and enthusiasts from the States to Europe.
Static On The Wire – Holy Ghost!
Unlike their West Coast counterparts CLASSIXX, whose productions echo the retro sounds of the 80s with mellow swaying beats and bright undertones, Holy Ghost! seems to be transplanted from the deep dark 70′s, with a raw disco edge and spaced-out melodies that are as epic as they are uplifting. Coupled with the production power of world-renowned DFA Records, and the guidance of James Murphy (DFA/ LCD SOUNDSYSTEM), the duo has managed to create a collection of timeless dance floor anthems, and late night jams that easily make Holy Ghost! one of the biggest acts in modern disco.
Q: And how exactly have they achieved their sound?
A: 15 years of working together on music, from hip hop to alternative rock to static on a wire. And an inability to produce on anything but vintage analog gear.. Not by choice, but because it’s the only way they know how. “Static On The Wire” and “Say My Name” are the two newest tracks to hit the blogsphere, along with “I Know I Hear” and the two previous singles, “Hold On” and “I Will Come Back” the track-listing is rounded out. The EP is out now on DFA RECORDS, and you can get it HERE.
Say My Name (U-Tern Remix) – Holy Ghost!
Another Brooklyn based DJ/ Producer and personal favorite of mine; U-TERN was asked to remix “Say My Name” and deserves a very honorable mention from us. He transformed the original above, which is a slow, driving, infectious pop masterpiece into a lush club-ready JAM. Be sure to keep an eye out for U-Tern this year, and keep your ears open for this one will spread like wildfire all over San Diego and the interweb alike.
Catch Holy Ghost! this Saturday night @ Voyeur with Franki Chan, for an unprecedented Comic Con afterparty complete with feather boas and blatantly homo-erotic costumes and party monsters, hosted by IHEARTCOMIX, but of course.

They will be stopping through San Diego once more this summer on August 16th at House Of Blues, so be sure to catch them opening up live! for Chromeo — as the duo traverses the states in promotion of their new album BUSINESS CASUAL due out September 14th.
