Sonic Selections from Our Intern: Volume 5

I’m back home in Nor-Cal, kinda sad to leave San Diego behind for a couple months, but it’s good to be home. So let’s kick off this summer right! This week’s selection is inspired by many things. The sun. Lack of stress. Carefree attitudes. Drinking by the pool. Hot-tubbing. Attending festivals. #winning in general. I think this summer will be one for the books, can we agree and make this happen??

A friend introduced me to this song during the past week. I know it’s a little old, but I think we have a new contender in the top 5 female vocalist category! Giselle absolutely tears this simple song apart with her beautiful accent. With a beat somewhat similar to Totally Enormous Extinct DinosaursGarden“, containing little more than a drum beat and a piano, this track’s simplicity is what makes it an instant classic.

Gigamesh has honestly, and unfortunately, fallen off my radar since their brilliant remix of “Everything in its Right Place” by Radiohead. But when I saw that they had released a new remix of Foster the People‘s “Pumped Up Kicks” you bet I was stoked. I think it’s safe to say that they are still on top of their game.

Whoa, power up the bass cannon. This new remix from B screams banger! Now I know that a hardcore dubstep song doesn’t quite give off the sunny/carefree summer vibe, but I couldn’t pass this one up. VIP turns Excision and Downlink‘s “Existence” into one of the most solid dubstep tracks I’ve heard in the last couple weeks. But a word of warning, only turn this on if you’re ready to have your ears blown off.

Featured on The Music Ninja last week, this track features some more awesome vocals (a trend this week I guess). A great song to wind your day down to a close, or to get it started. You know what? Just a perfect song all-around. Songs like this give me hope that this summer will be the best (music-wise) in the past decade for happy nu-disco type sounds.

I was so obsessed with the last track that I did some research on exactly who Blue Satellite is… and I’m digging what I found. Fresh from Illinois, he’s an unsigned artist with just 0ver 400 fans on his FB page. Up and coming? I have high hopes for him! Here’s a fun little track I found; if I had to sum it up in one word, bliss. Loving the little guitar riff with the piano and melodies.
