Summertime in COLOUR VISION: August 2010

“A beautiful [song] can make you dizzy. Like you’ve been drinking jack and Coke all morning. It can make you high. Full of the single greatest commodity known to man… Promise. Promise of a better day. Promise of a greater hope. Promise of a new tomorrow. This particular aura can be found in the [rhythm] of a beautiful [song]. In it’s [ambiance], in its soul, the way it can make every rotten little thing about life seem like it’s going to be okay.”

-Beautiful Girls

“Swimming” – Tornado Wallace

Tornado Wallace, a fairy underground producer from Australia has been a staple in my music collection since first laying ears on his long-winded and seducing remix of Polygon Palace‘sTokyo Getaway” (here.) Since initial discovery, “Swimming” an original release that dropped this summer has been on repeat on my stereo, and one of my favorite summertime slow jams to date. It’s slow-pulsing rhythm, meandering bass-line sets a relaxing and upbeat vibe that is complimented by a filtered synth line that hypnotically loops throughout, swelling and climaxing during the duration of the 7 minute-long track. With added reverb and perfectly automated filter effects, the song takes on a spacey, yet underwater vibe, that perfectly suits its name, and makes it one of the ULTIMATE poolside party anthems…  Besides of course..  Shazam’s “Pool Party 2009“ (here) which undoubtedly inspired “Swimming

“Lovers” – Brothertiger

What is summertime without a little love?

Brothertiger, one of the upcoming names in the “Lo-Fi movement”, made the rounds this summer as well with his single “Lovers.” A perfectly crafted indie pop song, “Lovers” playfully picks up where Neon Indian may have left off after his last album.. With vocals a little less hidden by filters, with more straightforward melodies and song structure. The gently lapping piano chords are offset by the more modern effects, sampling techniques, and synthesizers used by Brothertiger while the seamless structure  and timing of the song make it an instant summertime playlist favorite.

“To The Lighthouse (Millionyoung Remix)”- Memoryhouse

Millionyoung, another rising star of the Lo-Fi sound from Florida, has quickly became one of my favorite new electronic artists over the past few months. His remix of Memoryhouse’sTo The Lighhouse“( which is actually a bit different style than his original songs) has made a profound impact on my stereo and emotions, and easily made my 2010 summer list. Beginning with an otherworldly pulsing synthesizer line, the track immediately lures you in with a thumping drum kick and tempo-altering high hats that quickly lead to the main rhythm with a crunchy snare and haunting vocals. Although somewhat dark and borderline melancholy, the song transcends its own voice with a playful melody that rides atop the track; and through this contradiction of tones, transforms the overall song into a very bright and uplifting jam. Cue the meandering guitar solo.. And we have a winner.

Moving into the hot summertime evenings

“Disco Thrills” – LBCK

LBCK sets the vibe with one of the most epic and romantic dance party anthems that I’ve had the pleasure of playing extremely loudly to a group of strangers. A new project that has already delivered two original singles (one of which has an insane new video here) and has sent waves through the blogosphere, LBCK (Long Beach City Kids) easily make the list with “Disco Thrills.” Part 90′s french house (i.e.Daft punk) part Nu-Disco banger (i.e. Treasure Fingers), LBCK deliver a track worthy of any sweltering summer night with this high energy, highly groove-able track.

P.S They will be playing in San Diego on August 21st.Details coming soon

“Swoon (Boys Noize Summer Mix)” – The Chemical Brothers

Hands down..

THE. ALL TIME. 2010. SUMMER. JAM.

Boys Noize, one of the top DJs/producers in the world right now, comes out of nowhere with his “SUMMER MIX” oThe Chemical Brother’s new single “Swoon.” Known for his hard hitting, aggressive electro dance music, Boys Noize delivers a 2008 throwback remix similar to his classic rendition of “Lights & Music” by Cut Copy (here) that stole the hearts of every young electro enthusiast and inspired countless producers that are currently flourishing in the Nu Disco genre.

Equal parts epic vocal build-ups, and a stabbing Boys Noize style bass-line make this beautiful creation a timeless summer anthem, pleads us to..

REMEMBER TO FALL IN LOVE

(even if it’s just with the beautiful weather we finally are seeing)
