Whether we want to accept it or not, summer is coming to a close. But it’s a damn good thing that every promoter in San Diego is doing their part to make sure Summer 2012 ends with a complete and utter bang. Last year’s San Diego stop on the Identity Festival Tour was definitely one of the parties of the year. Apparently Kaskade thought so too—giving the people San Diego props, during his set, on making it the biggest and most poppin’ stop of the ID tour.
I remember getting there just in time to rage face to Datsik’s set at the side stage. The perfect way to get your blood going on 90° afternoon, just before Pretty Lights proceeded to launch the main stage into the cosmos. There’s something about his set that night that’s hard to put into words. At that point, I feel you’ve done your job as an artist. With acts like Nero and Kaskade to send everyone home, I’ve been itching to get back to the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre for another day of bomb music and beautiful people.
San Diego, that was just Round 1 of this day-long fiasco. This time we’re welcoming Eric Prydz, Excision, Porter Robinson, Noisia, Doctor P, and a helluva lot more talent to our little paradise on Earth. I hope you’re as prepared as I am to make this SOLD OUT Identity Round 2 even better than last year.
Having just seen Eric Prydz at the Hollywood Palladium, I can tell you that this O.G definitely lived up to the hype. I’m anticipating a slightly different set this time. A set geared more towards a ROOOWDY Identity Festival crowd. Guess only time will tell.
You don’t understand how stoked I am to see Excision for the 2nd time. But OUTSIDE this time! His 100,000 watt sound system that he whipped out during his X-Tour blew the roof off of the House of Blues and likely caused some activity on the Richter Scale. It definitely gave my organs a good shake. The outdoor setting should give our ears a chance to breathe. Maybe…
This year’s Identity Festival is packin’ some young raw talent. Hardwell (24), Arty (22), and Porter Robinson (20) have all proved age is completely irrelevant to success. Earlier this year, Porter Robinson released what I think may be the anthem of 2012 electronic music. His track “Language” has been a hit since its release. He dropped the official video for the song earlier this month. Check it!
LED Presents recently announced the line-up for their side-stage aka their hand-picked “Tastemaker Stage” at Identity Festival. They brought San Diego favorite TJR in to give us our funk fix and, most notably, RL Grime (Clockwork’s “trapped out” alter-ego) who will be shutting the stage down from 7:15-8:00 pm with what’s guaranteed to be a fire set. If you find yourself trying to take an adventure away from the main stage, I advise scoping out RL Grime’s set. It’ll have you asking, “Damn son. Where’d you find this?!”
Sets by Mixster favorites Louisahhh!!!, John Roman, LIGHT YEAR & Samo Sound Boy are also high on our priority list, and certainly shouldn’t missed.
And just when you think it’s all over, Eric Prydz and a favorite of his, Audrey Napoleon, will be spinning into the early morning at Voyeur for the LED Identity after-party. Having just released her new ORNAMENTAL EGOS EP just late last month (available for download here), Audrey Napoleon has plenty of fresh tunes to unload. If you aren’t able to catch her set at Identity, the official Identity after-party gives you a prime opportunity to see her spin, and keep the good times rolling.
