Homegrown and for the locals only, once a month at the Andaz Hotel, we will be showcasing the best of what San Diego has to offer, from all over the county map. Local DJs spinning an eclectic mix of forward-thinking sounds, visually stunning art and design from San Diego’s creative underground, and the “in the scene action” broad casted live, at Local Produce, we’re spotlighting those special facets of San Diego’s real urban lifestyle.
This special event, hosted by TK Productions, DTown Productions, and TheMixster.com (!!), will spotlight those innovative and talented pioneers within San Diego’s creative underground: Each of which strive daily to make a positive impact on our local culture, and are personally driving San Diego’s evolution — to becoming an increasingly relevant and significant artistic hub, on the global scale. The Andaz, formerly known as the IVY Hotel, has given us this special opportunity to showcase these awesome creative individuals in a local and central part of Downtown San Diego, that is far enough away from the Gaslampland hype that would otherwise take away from the attention and praise our Local Produce deserves! With incredible views of all of Downtown’s skyline, and catching the season’s first warm summer breezes, we will be celebrating on the IVY rooftop, and basking in the talent that is San Diego’s very own Local Produce.
This month, we will be spotlighting a whole new set of forward-thinking individuals: DJs and producers that are leading the evolution of San Diego’s local electronic soundscape. And, we’re also shining the spotlight on a considerably young creative mind who’s forcing San Diego’s bar of artistic standards rapidly upwards.
Introducing: SQZMYLMNS, COLOUR VISION, and Dylan Ousley – this month’s fresh picks and our very own:
LOCAL PRODUCE.
SQZMYLMNS

SQZMYLMNS, the duo consisting of the deck masterminds Saul Q and Omar Ramos aka Kid Wonder, come together in the form of a tropical tech-infused hurricane: Raining down heavy, bass-laden drops that absolutely drown the dance floor with refreshing aural flows, that leave the crowds soaking wet — and always begging for more.
At Local Produce on July 1st on the IVY Rooftop, we can only assume their performance will be no different: Highly-kinetic electro bangers, with a huge incline for tropical tech grooves that channel that sultry Miami state of mind: Moving bodies — glistening in the warm moonlight, while overlooking the clear ocean waters off of South Beach; hips swinging and feet moving nonstop; commanded only by the powerful and rhythmic percussion and luscious, summery synths — tickling all of your senses until dawn.
Both born and raised in San Diego, Saul and Omar integrate those inherent sonic facets, that hold tremendous cultural significance and relevance within our local community into their dance electronica fundamentals. Thus, their use of samples like traditional Mexican brass horns, multi-layered-cumbia-inspired percussion ensembles, and the cool fluidity yet unavoidable shoulder-shaking character of corrido – are what make SQZMYLMNS’ creations so sonically distinguishable; that achieve a sound that is uniquely, and, so undeniably, San Diego -inspired.

COLOUR VISION

DJ COLOUR VISION lays down sets that quiver the knees of those whose hearts are instantly mesmerized by any sonic inkling of sprakling italo-disco soundscapes, glittering electronica, and airy whisps of glo-wave romanticism. Along with his groove-worthy and aurally enchanting DJ sets, COLOUR VISION also shares his passion for music by uncovering those beautiful sonic treasures — glimmering like diamonds in the rough, that are often hiding beneath the digital depths of a saturated sea of interwebs — and then he spreads his wealth, an array of shiny and fresh new sounds, to the rest of the world.
Catch COLOUR VISION’s set at LOCAL PRODUCE tonight, and get ready to close your eyes, and ride the sound wave, into the late hours of the night.

Dylan Ousley

Dylan’s creative talent, extensive portfolio and client list, and his delightful, happy chap personality absolutely astound me; and his age, totally humbles me. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched of me to claim that Dylan Ousley — might be one of the more accomplished, fervently persistent, and talented 21 year-olds San Diego has to boast as one of its very own: Born and raised.
This month’s LOCAL PRODUCE flyer (see above) includes a design that Dylan Ousley actually did for TheMixster.com not too long ago. The task of successfully creating a design for a site that innately has an identity crisis by the very nature of its determined necessity: The inherently inexplicable ambiguity can be irritatingly problematic — to say the very least. But Dylan, on first his attempt, nailed it. Jaws dropped, coffee spilt, and the front door slammed shut: Dylan successfully captured visually what was previously, inexpressible.
Someone so culturally absorbent, sensitive to client needs, and creatively-attuned to progressive design, Dylan Ousley is a leader: At the forefront of San Diego’s new generation of creatives, with more gusto, vintage cardigans, and technological ammunition than ever before. Dylan Ousley is commanding nods of approval from every angle and is forcing the older generation of creatives out of their comfort zones, to get their As into G, and to work harder, just to keep up.
Catch Dylan Ousley designing next month’s LOCAL PRODUCE flyer LIVE at the IVY Rooftop, TONIGHT Thursday, July 1st.
