What an amazing day. Coachella 2011 certainly commenced with an enormous fury of bass-ridden sound and explosive kinetic energy, a chemistry innate only to the Empire Polo Field grounds, during the most amazing hipster holiday weekend of the year.
Coachella 2011 boasted a line-up filled with notorious names within the dubstep realm, as well as acts whose names are at the top tier of the global EDM sphere.
Footage I captured from this momentous occasion concentrated mostly on acts within the Sahara, that was complete this year with an LED enchanting light installation by Muti Randolph that help create a spectacular visual and audio world – an experience unlike any other thanks to Randolph and the Creator’s Project.
12th Planet
I have come to expect a lot from 12th Planet’s performances: rambunctious crowd surfing and general stage shenanigans to a self-constructed massive soundtrack of heavy danceable bass beats and equally powerful & addictive drops. And 12th Planet certainly delivered this and then some at Coachella 2011.
Skrillex joins 12th Planet on stage to perform their track “Father Said”. And the crowd goes FUCKING NUTS.
Although I am a Skrillex fanatic, I have to say the most exciting part of 12th Planet’s set was when Little Jinder joined 12th Planet onstage to perform her track “Youth Blood” as well as debut live their new collaboration track for the massive Coachella crowd enamored by the sound.
REST OF THE VIDEOS FROM EXCISION, SKRILLEX, CUT COPY, MAGNETIC MAN, AND BOYS NOIZE AFTER THE JUMP!!!!!!
Excision
Really awesome set by Excision – wish I didn’t leave to go see if Moving Units were doing something worthwhile. Because they weren’t. And I totally lost my awesome spot up front. Sad face.
Can anyone ID the following track?
Skrillex
Opening of Skrillex’s set with absolutely amazing visuals. I apologize for the giant pink noodle obstructing your view.
As with any proper Skrillex show, a dance circle was formed. And I happened to be right next to it. Holla.
Skrillex plays arguably one of the top tracks played at Coachella thus far: His remix of Benny Benassi’s “Cinema”. And, as expected, the crowd went absolutely bonkers. Following this track i managed to capture a clip of what sounds like an unreleased Skrillex track – can anyone ID it?
But it’s actually Medison – “Harry (Bare Noize Remix)” **Thanks Ethan & Kolten for the track ID!!!**
Members of Korn join Skrillex on stage to perform their fresh new single together “Get Up”.
This track is so dope.
Cut Copy
Unfortunately for us, Cut Copy and Magnetic Man’s performances overlapped so I was able to only capture one solid video from Cut Copy’s set. During the short time I was there though it was an absolutely stellar performance. I just wish I got to see more of it. Boo to whoever chose those set times.
Magnetic Man
The number of Magnetic Man videos I have is almost absurd: but far from undeserved. It was an absolutely mind-blowing set by the trio made-up of Benga, Artwork, and Skream, and accompanied by their equally dynamic MC, who unfortunately never announced his name – at least to my knowledge?
Magnetic Man play a little prank on the audience, asking them to get as low to the ground and to stay there, until the immense bass of their track hits the subwoofers to an extent where you can actually see my camera rapidly start shaking, as all of us on the ground (especially us directly IN FRONT of the subwoofers) were totally blown away and left in a body-quivering state. So intense. I would recommend NOT standing in front of the speakers during any future Magnetic Man performances. You might as well bang your head into a wall.
When I hear this track and think about their performance, it still gives me chills.
What a powerful performance, big room arena dubstep, at its absolute very very finest. I am so impressed.
Boys Noize
To culminate the evening, Boys Noize debuts his LIVE DJ set to the Coachella masses accompanied by three enormous LED light structures that would soon captivate tens of thousands of infatuated souls.
Alright I could stick around here and write some thoughtful shit about my Coachella experience, but instead I’m going to get back out there and capture the best of the best on the third and final day (welp) of Coachella. LOTS more amazing video and crass commentary coming your way shortly so stay tuned!!!
